MrLocke Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Scroll down to myth #8. I am not claiming the other guys are any better. I am just curious what Republicans have to say about this. I myself am a hardcore libertarian and believe all the government ought to be involved is police and military.
ch19079 Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 i remember during the Gore/Bush debates, i believe Gore said we needed to limit spending and reduce the deficate. but bush countered, saying that under clinton, government spending increaced a large amount. i remember because the moderator stopped everything and said, "IS THIS TRUE!!". and i didnt think that was the moderators place to do that... to me its like education. during every election they talk of education, but when in office they never talk about it or do anything about it. but what gets me is that the republican officials are rich and deep in to big buisness, but somehow gain the support of the hard working and low to middle class citizens.

UConn James Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Is there any administration where spending has actually decreased? 716706 It didn't under Gengis Khan, it didn't under Eric the Red, and it won't under #44. The faces change, the places change, but large-scale govt budgets don't go downward.

Spending had nowhere to go but up.

ch19079 Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Is there any administration where spending has actually decreased? 716706 i dont believe so. spending has always increased. thats part of the reason i didnt like bush's "attack" and the moderators reaction to it during the debate.
Wacka Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 I'm no librertarian, but Jefferson had it right. The government that governs least governs best. They could get rid of the Dept. of Education for one.

Gavin in Va Beach Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 of all the things to pick..... education? 716820 Yeah, because the states and local school boards were doing a horrible job before the feds stepped in to make everything better...
Hollywood Donahoe Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Yeah, because the states and local school boards were doing a horrible job before the feds stepped in to make everything better... Bingo. The less the federal government gets its hands on, the better. This is what the media and the layperson fail to see - Bush's biggest failure isn't Iraq, it's his complete unwillingness to even curb the increase in size and spending of the federal government.
EC-Bills Posted June 30, 2006 Posted June 30, 2006 Yeah, because the states and local school boards were doing a horrible job before the feds stepped in to make everything better... 716824 Exactly No child left behind approaches the level of gayness that Ed's Honda Fit does.

Boatdrinks Posted July 6, 2006 Posted July 6, 2006 but what gets me is that the republican officials are rich and deep in to big buisness, but somehow gain the support of the hard working and low to middle class citizens. 716692 That "somehow" is no great mystery. This is accomplished by appealing to their "religion". Inventing hot-button issues of no relevance to government- see gay marriage, abortion - and making them a focal point to deflect attention from the real problems in society today -see health care, increasing income inequality, shrinking middle class- If your political bent does nothing for the working class-then let them think that it IS for them- tug at their heartstrings. The hard working low and middle class folks tend to be old fashioned and can't think critically, thus their attatchment to religion. This strategy worked brilliantly for Bush in '04. Personally I think the GOP and the Dems both suck, but the way these people let themselves be fooled that the GOP does anything for them is sad, really.

Uncle Teddy really cares about how the price of gas impacts your daily life. Well, as long as it doesn't spoil his view.
