My mother gave me this book. I had never heard of it and had no idea what it was about.

It turned out to be one of the best books that I have ever read. I will not spoil it by going into the details, but it is about a boy who grows up in a privileged manner in Afghanistan, later moves to the US with his father after the Soviet invasion, is haunted by something that happened in his childhood, and later redeems himself.

It is very moving. I also learned more about Afghanistan and its culture.

If you are looking for a good book to read over the Fourth of July weekend, you may want to consider the Kite Runner.

Is it ironic that you suggested a book with an Afghan protagonist for us to read during the ultimate American celebration?

No knock on the book, I'll probably check it out, just not this weekend.

But what's more American than a story about people emigrating here? :pirate:

I've heard other people say this was an excellent book too.
