Can you imagine if BR's career is over? My guess is the driver of the car will have to find a new residence. The hate mail, threats, and phone calls will be pouring in and they will be black balled everywhere in Pittsburgh, ala Steve Bartman in Chicago….

The driver is from Maine. Chances are the Patriots will send a thank you card.

You sound like a bike rider.  Although I have no statistical proof to back it up, I would guess that you are dead wrong, in a high percentage of cases.

I had a good friend who was killed on a motorcycle about three years ago.  I know that he was aware, he was reckless while driving, and always swore he would be "more careful".

My brother was in a very serious motorcycle accident about 25 years ago, and admitts, it was his fault for being reckless, and taking too many chances.

The brother of another very good friend of mine was just in a terrible wreck back in February, and is still laid up.  He said that he should have known it was coming, because he took too many risks on his bike.

I have no doubt that "morons driving cars" bare some of the blame, but not all, all of the time.

We have a large motorcycle rally every year hear in Austin (just happened two weeks ago) and our streets are invaded for a weekend, with thousands of motorcyclists from all over.  Every year, one or two of them get killed, often with their "old lady" on the back.  Normally overgrown men child, trying to prove how macho, and noisy they can be.  It is not uncommon to see them rumbling far over the speed limit, and weaving in and out of traffic.

There are morons out there who drive their cars recklessly or take their ATVs off of 5 foot dirt jumps. People do dumb things all the time. As a "responsible" bike rider who avoids heavy traffic and just likes to go for cruises on the weekends, trust me, a ton of folks do NOT look for bikes on the road.

I heard another report that Charlie Batch was the first guy at the hospital--which was slightly humorous. He's already gauging his chances at starting.

2005 Suzuki Hayabusa, which is named after a Japanese bird of prey. The 170-horsepower bike, which weighs 500 pounds fully loaded, it could reach a top speed of 189 mph.

The motorcycle is popular among first-time buyers, said Steve Stiller, a salesman at Northgate Motorcycles in Cranberry, Butler County

 First time riders are buying a 189mph bike??:lol::lol:

I really hope Big Ben is ok and will be able to play. That said, how dumb can you be? If I was a Steelers fan, I would be livid. Your division rival just lost a player for a season after fooling around on a bike. Now you go riding without a helmet? Not smart. You also gotta blame the Steelers for not putting this in their contract. I understand they have a different law there about helmets, but if I was paying a guy millions of dollars, I would find a way to make him wear a helmet or else his contract would be voidable. Imagine if McGahee or Spikes did this? People's heads would explode around here. Dumb.

Roethlisberger's 2005 Suzuki Hayabusa, which is named after a Japanese

bird of prey, was totaled. The front wheel was broken in half. The

handle bars were broken. The left pedal was shattered. The

170-horsepower bike, which weighs 500 pounds fully loaded, was targeted

by law enforcement agencies worldwide after its 1998 debut because it

could reach a top speed of 189 mph.

This bike isn't for cruising. Its the fastest bike in the world.

Another thing to consider...the concussion Ben received in this accident could equal 10 'normal' concussions.  Recovery could be difficult.

Fortunately, he's a Pittsburgh QB, so a fully functional brain is not a job requirement.

I hear ya... but I don't think the helmet would've done anything to help his knees.

What a damn shame.

No way.  Try driving on the Belt Parkway here in NYC, during the summer.  Massive traffic, crawling along at 20 MPH, here comes some yahoos on bikes weaving in between the three lanes choke full of traffic.  And they wonder "why" when they get wasted by a car changing lanes.

You want to talk about killing a whole day while some yahoo is scraped off the Belt, after trying to make it between an Expedition and a Land Rover full of kids, and you're sitting there for 3 hours.  Fun.

I've often considered smacking them on the helmet as they pass me doing that.

Well, I understand your point. However, in the cases that I was speaking of, all three were riders that use (or used) their motorcycle as their primary mode of transportation. From the looks of what I saw on the news about Roethesburger, it looked like the intersection he had his accident at, was a high traffic area. I don't doubt that there are moron car drivers out there either. Sadly though, right or wrong, a bike rider is always at greater risk in an accident. The oneness, to a degree, falls on him/her to be aware of where they are, and what the potential is for an accident.

If drivers are not aware of them, they need to make them aware.

He better hope he doesn't win "Comeback Golfer Of the Year" or his golf career will automatically be over.

Helmet or no helmet, motorcylces are a bad idea. I lost a good friend 3 years ago, and I just see them as pointless to have

Thanks Mom.

I'm going to bet that Ben wasn't wearing any protective gear whatsoever. I'll never understand the infatuation with owning a Hayabusa or any of that type of ride with the idea that it's a OK to ride them in everyday traffic. Someone like Roethlisburger has the money to get track time and that's really the only safe place to ride a bike like that.

I ride a cruiser and Wear full leathers with kevlar inserts and a full face helmet.
