Ramius Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 http://sports.yahoo.com/nfl/news;_ylt=Ah2B...=yhoo&type=lgns Brown seems to think there is some talent to be found. PTR 704594 I believe once the order is determined, it proceeds like the usual draft, with teams either selecting a player or passing on their pick. But whatever pick you use in this years supp. draft, you lose that round pick in next years (regular) draft.

Then they lose that pick in 2007? PTR

Say we want to pick someone. The first round - everyone passes. The second round - everyone passes. The third round - everyone passes. The fourth round - we pick "our guy we-gotta have he's too good to pass up as a 4th rounder" The firth round - everyone passes. ... to the end - with everyone passing. Next year's draft: 2007 Buffalo has picks remaining in the 1,2,3 5,6 7 rounds i.e., no 4th rounder because we took "our guy we-gotta have he's too good to pass up as a 4th rounder".
millbank Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 Supplemental Draft As for supplemental draft procedures, this is straight from the folks at NFL headquarters who would oversee such a draft: Each club’s draft position is weighted by assigning the weakest club the greatest number of lottery chances and the strongest club the fewest number. Team strength and weakness will be determined by the original order of the first round of the prior to the April draft and before any trades (i.e., the weakest club, which from the 2003 season is the San Diego Chargers, will have its name in the drawing 32 times, the next weakest 31 times, etc., until the Super Bowl winner, which would have its name in once). There is a three-step drawing process that works in the following order: 1. Teams that won six or fewer games in the prior regular season are placed together in a container and drawn to determine the initial arrangement of places in the selection order; 2. The remaining non-playoff teams are placed together in a container and drawn to determine their places following those determined in the first drawing; 3. Playoff teams are placed together in a container and drawn to determine the remaining places in the selection order.

PTR 704635 Its essentially a player auction. you'd "bid" a draft pick on a player, and the highest draft pick "bid" gets that player. But then that pick is lost next year. Essentially any pick in the '06 supp. draft is really the '07 pick 9-10 months early.

Socialism, like the NBA and the NHL..
Rubes Posted June 7, 2006 Posted June 7, 2006 Maybe we could use the opportunity to pick up another safety or two...
Pyrite Gal Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 Thanks. A bit more than only 1 through 32 fnal standings. Socialism, like the NBA and the NHL.. 704685 and to some significant extent the CBA also, but collectivism rather than socialism is probably a more accurate description. The team owners have realized (by force actually as they kicked the NFLPA's butt but then realized when the beaten union annouced it was decertifying itself the owners and the NFL product could not survive in a real free market where team owners had to actually compete to buy all players) that they needed to expand their collective to survive. The players are now not only partners but actually the majority partners receiving 59.5% of all receipts. A free market is about individualism. The CBA is not really socialism as social welfare has nothing to do with this. It is however based upon a collective rather than individualistic economic model.
syhuang Posted June 8, 2006 Posted June 8, 2006 Mort just reported any pick Bills make in the supplemental draft would be a reach. Clayton also confirmed it.

Marv picked a red-shirt Freshman Safety from Ohio State with our 2007 Number One (first pick in the draft). [/s]

Clayton also confirmed it. 704929 In A followup report, they both stated that any pick that Dallas makes is a steal and that they both want to have Parcells' child.
