Bill from NYC
Just another way for pols to show us how "tough" they are. In yest another show of "strength," they are going to give amnesty to 12 million invaders of our country, but also make English the "official language." That'll show 'em! VABills
And yet during the presidential election this was on the ballot in several key states, and was considered part of the reason that a large part of the population came out and voted to disallow gay marraiges, and hence helped get the conservatives out voting for Bush. As you say, stupid or not, it is a key issue that will get voters out. Especially the conservative vote which is good for the Republican party. Other then the fringe of the democrat party there are few that either care or want gay marraiges.
Johnny Coli
As if we don't have more important things to deal with... linky 703071 Well, when your approval numbers are lower than Nixon's, and you're freaking out about the possibility of the Dems controlling either the Senate or the House (and because of the almost-certain hearings and investigations that will follow), it's time to whip up the Fundamentalist base that put you there in the first place. To paraphrase a quote from The Dick, "I think they're in their last throes."

If so, that is about how long it will take for some dummycrat to either call his conservative opponent a racist, or claim they they will take away a woman's right to "choose." Both parties throw out b.s. issues to distract us from issues that matter. Are you SO partisan that you really can't see this?

I am partial to "Bush hates old people/black people/poor people/<insert your people du jour here>." Always good for a laugh.

Be that as it may, both of your responses to the politics of distraction (ie whipping up a diminishing portion of your base) by the GOP were to bring up topics that distract from the issue. It's laughable that the same people who are so quick to condemn a "Bush Bad!" post are the same ones to use "Dems bad" posts. Now who's being "partisan?" Bill from NYC
Now who's being "partisan?" 703109 You John, YOU! I made it quite clear that I think both parties bring us b.s. issues to distract us from things that matter. Did you not catch me reference to making English the "official" language? That was a slap at repub sellouts who are granting amnesty to invaders, against the will of the voters. Otoh you, in typically blind, elitist liberal fashion, seem to imply that only repubs do this. Do you think that I am on this board trying to convince you to be a republican? I most certainly am not. My thing is that your implication that repubs are phonies and liberal dems are pristine is nothing short of stupid. Sorry.

Your response to my initial post was that the "dummycrats" do it, too, a position that, had it been uttered by a left-leaning poster, would have been soundly beaten down by the GOPPP. That's what I was responding to, combined with Ken's post. Nowhere in this thread did I claim that liberal Dems were "pristine." I sure as hell do that in plenty of other threads, but not in this one. I was attacking your use of a partisan argument to label me partisan. I addressed that with the tried-and-true class warfare thingy the Dems always like to trot out when they need votes. I didn't know that only Dems were allowed to discuss that topic. I will keep that in mind in the future.
