DeeRay Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 Any recommendations? yeah... Staples, Office Depot, Best Buy, Walmart. Get the least expensive one you can... they'll all do what you want them to do. If you're really anal and have to have the best of the best, go to ZDNET and see what they say.
Dan Gross Posted October 1, 2004 Posted October 1, 2004 Plextor 716-UF 52467 Not up on the latest models, but you can't go wrong with Plextor. One thing to note: there are only 3-4 actual manufacturers of CD-RW drives. A lot of the "off-brand" drives are actually name-brand re-bundled. A few years back, when I got mine, it was a "Smart and Friendly," which was a Yamaha CD drive. More goods came with it, and it was considerably cheaper than the Yamaha model.

Fezmid Posted October 2, 2004 Posted October 2, 2004 Give him a minute to get some links, but Fezmid will be along soon! 52464 I was busy at work today.... Sorry to disappoint. As others have said, Plextor is good. I'd also highly recommend hte Pioneer A08; Pioneer led the way with DVD burners, and they still make top-notch burners. The problem with buying DVD burners is trying to figure out who owns what. There's dozens of brands, but only a few companies actually produce the drives - the rest are just rebadged. For example, I have a Lite-On drive which is really the Pioneer A04. I'd recommend reading the following three dealsites (which I recommended yesterday): http://www.slickdeals.net http://www.devsdeals.com http://www.techbargains.com There seems to be a new burner listed there every few days... Yesterday I saw one for $49 - $40 rebate = $9. (actually a coworker saw it and told me about it). Another good site to check is http://www.anandtech.com/storage He's apparantly going to be doing an exhaustive recap of all of the drives in the near future as well (how convenient). Hope that helps a bit. CW
