NHL Wonders Why No Ratings?

Recommended Posts

Allright, I am feed up with the NHL(partly cause I can't see the game Sat), but theres more.

NHL fighting the NBA right now in terms of viewers and attention. So what do they do. Right in the middle of their most exciting time of the year, they essentially take a week off. If the Oil win tonight, they will have gone almost a week with ONE friggen game.Christ we all complain bout no hockey coverage on ESPN, but right now there is NOTHING to cover.

Then, they put a game on in the middle of a Saturday spring day. Yep, if yer trying to get the non-traditional, casual fan to watch, I am sure hes gunna be parked in front of the tube on Mid May saturday afternoon. Graduations, Preakness, weddings etc, etc, etc.... that all happen this time of year. Outside of Carolina and Buff, think ANYBODY will be watching this game.

Now, if not for this silly OLN contract( while I do like OLN coverage over ESPN) game would prolly be Saturday night, and maybe get some viewers.

Okay rant over, by why cant this league get out of its own way?

It's the NHL......It's the NEW NHL.......Which is still the NHL. I am still so pissed that this game is being played in the afternoon...Hell even college football realized that they need a Saturday night game game of the week. I am thankful that I have web service on my phone so I can check the score.

My friends on the west coast can watch the game with themorning coffee.

Now that'll get you some fans.

If they want to improve ratings, they should just show a black screen and just have audio of skanky porn stars faking orgasms. That really draws them in... ;)

Im pissed about the start of the game on Sat.  I have a stinkin' gra-ditation party to go to, and guess when it starts...2pm!  Why not have the game at 5 or 7 and get some audience!

I hear ya. 2pm Saturday faceoffs are rediculous. I could kinda understand a Sunday afternoon game, but Saturday? Rediculous.

So it's going to be on OLN?  I don't care since I get it, but I would have thought the game would be on NBC.

No, its on NBC, but i was aying if ESPN had the contract, prolly put it on ESPN saturday night. Oh yea, just to add some heartburn. Lets just say game goes into double overtime and it starts to hit bout 5.30 PM. UH OHH, Preakness coverage scheduled to begin at 5.00pm. What if it starts to hit 5:45, holy CHIT, their pulling the friggen game to wax poetic about BARBARO.....

THe only reason it is a week between the games is because both series (actually 3 out of 4) were very quick series that only went to 5 games.

As for the game time, maybe you should call NBC/OLN or the NHL corporate offices and ask them to change the game time just for you. I'm sure if you tell them you have something else to do at that time they will change the time of the game

If they played outside, the way it should be, the season would be over already.

Listen, its not just about me. Lots o people will just not be able to watch this game on spring Saturday afternoon. And the two Eastern teams were finished, coulda been playing tomorrow night. Why do they have to wait until the westen done? No reason at all.

And if ya read my post above, ya won't be so sarcastic if they pull the game in OT to cover the Sir Barton stakes at 5.05. Got news for ya, the folks who want to watch horse racing way outnumber those who want to watch hockey

I'm looking pretty smart about now. All that hard work I've put in alienating myself from the rest of the human race will pay off this Saturday when, having no other obligations, I will be enjoying the Sabres game in the comfort of my own home. Lay back, sip drink, pet dog, watch hockey.

And I'm sure just as many people can't watch the game at night on Saturday too.

The reason they don't start the one division before the other one is because it would not be fair to the other division. Lets say every Eastern Conference series went to sweeps while the west went to 7 games. The Eastern Conference could get almost a month off while the west would have no time off. They want to make it fair to both conferences. If you have other things to do at 2 on Saturday, then you have to prioritze and do which ever is more important to you instead of crying cause you won't be able to watch the game because you have something to do at that time. They have been having a Saturday afternoon game all playoffs. But like I said, give them a call, maybe they will change the game time cause a Saturday afternoon hockey game does not work according to you

I guess I'm in the minority as I'm VERY happy with the 2 PM face-off on Saturday. We were supposed to leave for the beach on Saturday for vacation. With the 2 PM start I was able to convince the wife to let me stay behind for the game and drive out to the beach afterwards. If it was a later game it would have been a much tougher sell.

For those people who are missing Saturday's game for graduation ceremonies, please don't blame the NHL or TV networks. They are not what's wrong with the world. I say blame the entire educational system. Not only are they doing a piss poor job of preparing our young people for adulthood, but they are forcing you to get dressed up on a Saturday. Do the math: NHL good, college bad.
