To make a long OTW story short, my son got a 'Hawks foam finger... I just called home tonight to see what is up and I found out he was abusing the 'Hawks finger... My first reaction when I got him on the phone: "Stop it immediately, you will anger the the "Hockey Gods" by dissing Buffalo's "Farm Team." His reply: "There aren't any "Hockey Gods!" He was obligated to attend a St. Joseph's Day table with his elderly mother... Our gain, gratis! We sat in the section were you can order from a menu... The guy takes the order down with a handheld... In today's day... My son ordered "fresh popcorn"... He reads very well and honed in on the word fresh... He will have it no other way (thanks mom!)... Well, literally... Before I gave the guy my $4.50 ( )... There was a lady standing there with the popcorn on a platter... I ordered a beer later... That took 10 freaking minutes! We also sat next to an older couple decked out in their signed 'Hawks jerseys. The first thing out of my mouth and with infinitesimal wisdom (remember they were older, and presumably weaker... ) was: "I am a Sabre fan, grew up in WNY... This is my first time getting a look at the Sabres' "farm team"..." Need I say they looked at me in disbelief. Curtis Brown did score the 'Hawks first goal in that game... Matthew Barnaby bounced some guys around... I babbled my mouth some more... The Coyotes pasted the 'Hawks 3-2 (3-1 most of the game until late). We did huddle around the Sirius boombox for game 3 in a very Norman Rockwellesque moment (just strike the sat antenna dangling out the window, to get better reception, from the picture)... I was pretty subdued painfully listening to the Ottawa announcers remark how Miller looked real bad on the Sens goal, the TC hit was "toatally clean", and how a Buffalo hit could have ruptured the gall bladder or spleen of an Ottawa play... OMF, did they just say that! A very surreal night I do say pulling in the on the wireless with les hommes du nord...
