As do canadians that use myspace to pick up 14 year old girls.

As opposed to the pre-internet way to do the same thing:

Hanging out at the Walden Galleria and trying to pick up 14 year old girls.

No, they can't. Many counties in NYS (including Nassau) raised the age to 19, and a push is on for 21.

Sadly, some of these high school seniors will be dieing in wars next year. Hey, as long as they are still here, let's strip them of their rights, no?

I just don't understand our population. As illegal aliens crowd our hospitals, causing our health care to lessen in quality and rise in cost, we worry about some teen drinking a friggin soda. Makes sense?

Obviously not all issues are in the same realm of importance, Bill, that's why you have different, local levels handling them. A school board can't do a whole lot about illegal aliens in the hospitals, but they are able to shut the door to unhealthy habits within the school by not actually selling unhealthy products.

I'm somewhat shocked that you find the problem to be that kids dying in wars can't buy smokes, instead of the fact that they're dying in wars.

I'm all for kicking the sh-- out of lazyasses who cant walk up or down a flight or stairs, so they'll walk across the bulding to use the elevator. Fat and lazy people piss me off. ot all lazy people are fat, but just about all fat people are lazy.

That's probably as far as you get in the alphabet as well before you get confused..

Kids shouldn't have a 'choice' to buy any soda in school. It's bad for them and there is no logical reason to offer it as an option, just like offering McDonalds would be a very bad idea.

And for those who don't care...just wait until Medicare goes bust and we still have a generation of unhealthy fatties expecting medical care.

Bingo. Glad someone gets it. Or are you just trying to take away kids' "rights" to eat McDonalds? :w00t:

As my father reminded me on a few occassions during my teen years, as long as I was living under his roof, the only "right" I had was in following his rules.

Bicycle helmets used to mean an immediate ass beating.

682755

My seven year is whining about it now... There is no helmet law in Illinois on bikes or motorcycles... You can even carry a kid on the back of a motorcycle and NOT have them wear a helmet.

I don't make him wear it on our street... Yet, on the open road he has to wear it.

Kinda half and half I guess...

I have a question. When and why did the backpack "thing" start?  In grade school, we kept our stuff in the desks, and in high school, we were issued lockers. Texts for homework were carried in the arm.

What the heck are the kids carrying?

Every now and again somebody raises concerns about back injury and so forth. I tend to believe 'em - these children look like a caravan of pack animals. :w00t:

That is what I wanna know too... I think it started in the 80's with college kids... I wonder if there is some master's thesis on this?... I would love to read.

It is actually mandated know that a kid have a bag.

WTF?

Anyway, we should simply move on and focus on serious issues, such as gay marriages, steroids in baseball and smoking (or drinking too much) in bars.

Then make the enlistment age 21... Why do they need it 18?

Of course I know the real answer to this question.

Wow - they are making tykes do that?

Kids should be skipping and running and being the goofy little things that they are - not beasts of burden fighting for career possibilities at age 10. :w00t:

Now they want "wheelies" so they can pull themselves on the bags!

Exactly... I guess you can get the kid some dorky looking bag... Remember when Addidas gym bags were in vougue?:huh:

It was probably a stretch to say that it is mandated, my son's kindergaten teacher (2 years ago) put "backpack" on the list of supplies... We went to REI and got my son a "kids size" one... He is still using it today... No Pokemon, Superman or some other thing that won't last a week...

Off on a tangent:

Now in my wife's family... They had it rough... In Kindergarten, they picked out a lunchbox and had to use it till grade 6... No getting a new one... Those things were built as tanks... And you better choose wisely or your lunchbox theme would be quickly out of date... I could just imagine my "Kung-Fu" themed lunchbox not really being in vogue past 1974... :D:D My wife said that my sister-in-law chose unwisely and picked "The Monroes"... Cancelled after one season...:huh:

Bush Bad?

No.

You wait till the kid is 21 and most have a life going for them... They don't necessarily find it romantic or patriotic to become cannon fodder.

What was that song in the mid-1980's... 19? Compared the average to WWII (26)... This war, I think it the average is higher because of the resevists serving... Good for political and statistical soundbytes though...

Just IMO anyway...

When I was in high school in the mid-80s, it was a big deal when we got Orange Crush machines in the school cafeteria.

That's right...the only pop that could be served by the school was Orange Crush. The school had a contract with Pepsi, but only for athletic events.

When you were in high school, was pop available to you in the cafeteria? I used to bring my own soft drinks from home, but I didn't do it every day.

No...when I was a little snot, it was Red Ball Jets, P.F. Flyers, or Converse. Made in the U.S.A. In black.

I had one metal lunch box. I don't recall what was on it, but I thought it an encumberance. I'd put it on the sidewalk and kick it like a tin can all the way home.

I used to bike home for lunch when the winter broke and they would allow us to do so in grade school. Rain or shine...and I shake my head at today's bikes without fenders. I usually had a front basket, too. Got laughed at for that, but my bike was my key to freedom and I needed the cargo capacity for my junk. I had one of those thumb-operated bells for a while but somebody stole it.

For some people it's not their fault they are fat.  What if a child grew up in a house-hold that only ate crappy-high-fat foods.  This is all they know what to eat because they weren't taught that these foods are bad for them.  You calling them lazy?  And you are going to kick their ass cause they don't know any better?  How is that fair to them?  You shouldn't judge people before you know the facts.

682989

ok, my mistake was singling out fat lazy people. skinny lazy people need an ass beating too. as do people are a detriment and drain to society in any way. So basically, 75% of the population needs an ass beating. like people who dont take personal responsibility and sue the world for their BS. they need ass beatings as well.

Anyone remember that distinctive lunchbox thermous smell?

:w00t:

I only had one metal box. The thermos bottle was not very good, one of the reasons I made it a point to not to have a box...
