Cornerville
Just had a thought the other day... When Marv was coaching, he was not known for giving rookies promiment roles right away (maybe Thurman was the exception in 1988, please correct me if I am wrong about my thought process here).... Now that Marv is the GM and him and Jauron seem to really be on the same page, do you think Marv might influence Jauron when it comes to giving lots of playing time to rookies??? Robert Paulson
Marv used to day "every rookie starting =s an extra loss" since many players on this team play like or worse than rookies i think the best players will play no matter the experience. when Marv had a team full of Vets it was easy to let the rookies sit and learn in three years we will be able to let the rookies sit and learn
apuszczalowski
Right now the rookies were brought in to fill areas on the team and many will start at some point this season. The NFL was a little different back when Marv was the coach. Very few players came straight from the college ranks into starting jobs. The training, conditioning and college programs these players are coming from are becoming more like the pros each year so players are able to come right in in most cases compared to years ago when jumping from college to the pros took a while to get used too. In space no one can hear
Another of Marv's saying was: "The best rookies are last years rookies" or something similar.....

Back in the day, FA hadn't taken root and the salary cap was not an issue. Teams could stockpile guys and let them get 2-3 years of experience behind starters. Today, the player turnover each year is much higher and rookies and first year guys have to play an important role on the team. Marv didn't use to like underclassmen in the draft. We saw how his thinking has changed this weekend.
KOKBILLS
Marv is already on record saying the League is not the same anymore...In fact he commented on this Sunday Night while recapping the Draft...He said Younger Players HAVE to Play earlier now in the NFL...So the old theories concerning Rookies no longer apply with ML... "What smells like mustard?" PTR
Pyrite Gal
Sure Marv's coaching style influences that of his buddy and the guy who works for him Jauron. In general, this is a good thing because this influence is in the HOF because of his HC work and the fact is he HC'ed the Bills to 4 straight SB appearances. I hope to heck he is influenced by him! The question actually is whether he is influenced by Levy in the right ways so he draws the lessons from the past which apply to the present. Given that Levy is already on record as saying the words which appear above that he knows it is a much different NFL in regard to whether rookies start under the CBA than it was when he joined Polian, Butler, et al. in building a successful Bills team at least Marv rhetorically understands things must be done differently if one hopws to win. My guess is that Marv has already learned the lessons that change and growth are keys to winning in the NFL after his failed experiments trying to run ther single wing. Jauron also should be aware that change is essential after he had success as Coach of the Year but followed that up with failure and getting canned as HC running the same system. I see no reason whatsoever yet to think that Marv will force Jauron to stick with approaches which do not apply anymore. We'll see.
