Dr. Trooth Posted May 1, 2006 Posted May 1, 2006 Could mean many different things. Certainly Coy Wire's departure is a possiblity. But it is going deeper than that. Rashad Baker will need to step up or he is probably gone. Could be that Clements is going to sit out the year and, if so, perhaps Vincent moves back to corner. And even if Clements signs his franchise tender, the Bills are not going to cave in to his $$$ demands, so he would become a FA again next year. The difference is, Nate once again finds himself playing for a big contract and this time the Bills will have Youboty ready to replace him next year. I don't see both Clements and Vincent playing this season. I think it will be one or the other, not both. If Clements comes aboard, then Vincent is a June cut. If Clements balks, Vincent is insurance and steps in at cb. I think the Bills thought out many different scenarios with the secondary and, I think, were very diligent in there drafting. When the dust finally settles, there is an extreme possiblity that Youboty, Whittner, and Simpson, plus McCargo will all be starting next season. You can pencil Whittner in now. How can anyone squalk about that? 4 starters with your first 4 picks? When was the last time that happened? The Bills did not go for the "sizzle" and "flash" like the Donahoe regime did. I think they went out and got the steak and substance this time. I believe their first 5 selections will make a big contribution this season. That has not been the case the past few years. They had a quiet and unassuming draft. In fact I've got a feeling this whole organizantion is flying below the radar and many teams will underestimate them... enough so that they could quietly sneak into the playoffs. The face of this whole team has changed. I don't think anyone can predict how good or bad they will be because we just don't have enough to go on. Even the preseason won't shed a whole lot of light. Eight games in though, we will have an answer. For right now though.... we don't know what we don't know. As for all of these draft experts... well not many of them played or coached. And none of them, if any, ever made a draft pick in their life or put their nuts out on the chopping block and held accountable for a draft pick they made. They aren't much better than weathermen are. They predict, and if they're wrong, so what....what are we going to do, fire them?
Rubes Posted May 1, 2006 Posted May 1, 2006 That's one of the things I do find encouraging about this draft. I think Whittner will end up starting this year (though maybe not right away), McCargo will end up being either a starter or a heavy contributer this year, Youboty will likely end up as the nickel corner, and Simpson will probably be the eventual starter at FS. Then there is Williams, who may end up contributing heavily at DT. That sounds like a lot of potential production out of the first five picks, assuming of course that they pan out the way we hope. Which is wishful thinking, but nonetheless.
