Buftex
I don't know if they were the "official" stars of the game, but on the NBC broadcast they had a "players of the game" graphic which showed Briere, Connoly and Miller...it would make sense to me....great games by all three... smokinandjokin
Grier Timmy and Miller 679270 I went to the game, and was a little surprised when they announced Grier as the 3rd star (not that the stars mean anything anyways.) I do know that Briere had two assists, Dumont had a goal and an assist, but Grier had zero points. Being at the game (and drinking 24oz Blues) probably had me missing some of the non-flashy plays. Can anyone comment on Grier's performance? Obviously, that line as a whole played well, because Forsberg, Knuble, and especially Gagne were invisible. He doesn't show up on the scoresheet much, but has been all over the flyers, hitting, grinding, penalty killing, etc. I think him getting the 3rd star as as much for his play yesterday as it was for his play in the whole series. Cornerville
1st star: Ryan Miller: Did not have to be spectactular, but he really showed me a lot bouncing back from Game 4 and that horrific goal he gave up to Umberger. 2nd star: Tim Connolly: Really set the tone early with his beauty of a goal...has really stepped up in the playoffs 3rd star: Daniel Briere: The experts say the Sabres do not have a superstar. I beg to differ. Briere is amazing.

Was very strong on the forecheck and only had one partial "oops" in his own end the entire game. Which is very reasonable when you are going against the Forsberg line almost the entire game. He was hitting everything in sight. I thought he was the best player on the ice. Also, Pyatt had an extremely strong game as well. Response to other posters about Danny Briere. I was very disappointed in his play. (Yes, he had the 2 assists, so hopefully he is emerging from his funk.) He had way more than his fair share of intercepted passes and missed shots especially in the 1st and 2nd periods. He also took a very bad penalty. But, imo Grier played an outstanding game yesterday. Did you miss Rory?

I think it's affecting him. 679691 In game 5, yes he did play with Max. Until Hecht got hurt, he wasn't playing with him; and Danny was making similar plays (or lack there of) when he was playing with his normal line and his normal pp unit. As I mentioned, hopefully he is coming out of his funk, because the Sabres will need him to play well to keep this run going.
