Pyrite Gal Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 He sounds a lot like Mccargo (who sounds a lot like Triplett). A quick penetrating guy who is not a Ted Washington like bulwark against the run. This sounds quite interesting as it begins to look like the Bills are going to be a lot about putting pressure on the QBs in the cover 2 and the LBs are gonna be counted upon to stop the run. It underscores for me the thought that some folks are selling that McCargo and Triplett will never play together because they are the same tech 3 type (this mostly appears to be us amateurs using phrases to make it sound like we know what the heck is going on here, it is for me). All the DTs on the Bills roster appear to be quick penetrators with all of them weighing in at around 300lbs rather than the 340+ of a ngata. I think this team will put the two best DTs on the field and all these fan assumptions about whether an athlete plays a 1 gap, 2 gap, or tech 3 technique is little more than an assumption when none of us even knows in fact what the Bills D scheme is going to be except that we will do cover 2 rather than zone-blitz.
Cornerville Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 Tell me what to think!!!! 678107 That is how most people are on here... Please Mort, TELL me it is a good pick oh mighty one!!
ClassOf74 Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 Want a positive view for this year? The view this year will be tremendous - We get to look at the backsides of everyone in the EAST or at least NE and the JETS.
Cornerville Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 With all due respect. Lineart is not a good fit for the weather at the Ralph. 678174 Keep that quiet....The E$PN 'experts" told him differnently, od not ruin it. After all, what Clayton says is Gospel right???
Max997 Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 Free agency? Just wait and see how many UDFAs the Bills pick up, starting immediately after the draft tonight. 678157 every team does that
BringBackAndre Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 Judging from his picture, he looks like a "High Motor" guy. 678110 You gotta love those guys.
Sisyphean Bills Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 You gotta love those guys. 678270 "Can never have too many high motor guys." Am I mixing my cliches?
finknottle Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 every team does that 678268 but maybe we can let Clements walk now and spend that tender money... The one year tender is a pretty hefty warchest. Maybe the plan was to see if we can cover his loss through the draft *before* we decide to let him go?

Maybe the plan was to see if we can cover his loss through the draft *before* we decide to let him go? 678300 Uh, OK...so you want to start FOUR rookies in the secondary? Well, there is McGee.
Sisyphean Bills Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 Uh, OK...so you want to start FOUR rookies in the secondary? Well, there is McGee. 678305 In the 2-0-9 defense, there are plenty of secondary spots to fill.
Pine Barrens Mafia Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 In the 2-0-9 defense, there are plenty of secondary spots to fill. 678309 This is true, but marv just screwed the pooch by drafting an OT! We needed more DB depth!
The Jokeman Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 Kyle Williams/DT/LSU Height: 6'1" Weight: 299 40 Time: 5.18 Vertical Jump: 27.5" Bench Press: 32 reps DOB: 3/19/1984 Interested Teams: Arizona Cardinals, Atlanta Falcons, Baltimore Ravens, Carolina Panthers, Cincinnati Bengals, Dallas Cowboys, Denver Broncos, Detroit Lions, Green Bay Packers, Houston Texans, Indianapolis Colts, Jacksonville Jaguars, Kansas City Chiefs, Miami Dolphins, Minnesota Vikings, New England Patriots, New Orleans Saints, New York Giants, Oakland Raiders, Philadelphia Eagles, Pittsburgh Steelers, San Francisco 49ers, St. Louis Rams, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tennessee Titans, Washington Redskins Projected Round: 4th-5th Strengths: There are few players that play with the intensity or consistency of Williams. He is also one of the more technically sound players at his position this year. His work ethic and strong leadership skills will attract many teams come draft day. He will fight until the whistle blows on every play, even if he is beaten initially. His lateral movement along the line is above average. That coupled with his relentless pursuit makes him a good run defender. His pass rush skills are solid as well and they make up for his lack of sudden burst off the snap. Weaknesses: Athletically Williams is just average. He?s not very quick or strong for the position and that will end up catching up with him in time. His lack of ideal height and strength will limit what systems he can play in. He may have trouble doing some of the things he did at the college level due to his athletic limitations. Overall: Williams is the classic overachiever at the tackle position. He is the type of player that wasn?t blessed with the freakish skills for his position, but he works harder than anyone else to make himself as good as he can be. He will likely never be a star, nor is his upside high, but you know what you?re getting with Williams. He is just a solid and consistent player that can be relied upon to do his job. He won?t complain and he will get those around him to play harder. He is the type of player that is hard for a coach not to like. He will likely be limited to playing the three-technique tackle position as a pro, but could probably play the nose in a pinch, but that?s not an ideal position for him. Kyle Williams is a player that will never get a lot of attention (including on draft day), but he will be a solid contributor from day one in the NFL. He should hear his name called somewhere toward the end of the first day of the draft. Reminds you of: Chris Hovan, Tampa Bay Buccaneers Courtesy of NFL Draft Almanac who rated him as the 10th best DT in the draft.
BEAST MODE BABY! Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 I read he was the anchor for the LSU defensive line. Hey, wasn't Anderson the "anchor" for the Ohio State line? Instead of a 3rd round Tim Anderson we have a 5th round Tim Anderson. Woo-hoo!!!! Go Marv!!!!!
MDH Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 So tough that he even played against Georgia in 2004 despite suffering a compound fracture on hand in pregame warm-ups ... 678111 How does one play football with a bone sticking out of their hand?
Mark Long Beach Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 Compound fracture doesn't necessarily mean that it pokes out of the skin. It basically means that it was a complex breakage rather than a single break point.
dpbillsfan Posted April 30, 2006 Posted April 30, 2006 This according to Fox Sports............... READY TO PLAY Kyle Williams, DT, Buffalo Bills. Marv Levy is taking a lot of heat for this draft, but he found a fine player with the 134th selection. Williams is a high-energy defender who will fit in immediately as a rotation tackle. First-round pick John McCargo is a scout's dream who doesn't play to his potential. Williams is a coach's dream who hustles and makes a lot of plays but doesn't pass the tape measure tests. Don't be surprised if Williams is more productive this year.

The fracture you're talking about it called a Comminuted Fracture.
MikeSpeed Posted May 1, 2006 Posted May 1, 2006 This pick was all about replacing the name Williams on the D line so people will (or maybe won't) forget about Pat.
Pete Posted May 1, 2006 Posted May 1, 2006 I have a feeling Williams is gonna be a fan favorite. The kid reminds me of Chris Speilman. I love the description of Williams play as a "a rolling ball of butcher blades". I foresee myself getting a Kyle Williams jersey 2 2
