Astrobot
In 1999 Dick Jauron joined the Bears, He picked a skill player in Round 1, and the DT in Round 2. They picked a QB first, DT second, WR third. Five defensive players and 3 Offense were taken. He picked a skill player in Round 1, and the DT in Round 2. No early-round defensive backfield. 12 12 Cade McNown Bears QB UCLA 17 48 Russell Davis Bears DT North Carolina 17 78 Marty Booker Bears WR N.E. Louisiana 11 106 Warrick Holdman Bears LB Texas A&M 10 143 Jerry Wisne Bears G Notre Dame 11 144 Khari Samuel Bears LB Massachusetts 14 147 Jerry Azumah Bears DB New Hampshire 15 184 Rashard Cook Bears DB USC In 1978 when Marv Levy went to the Kansas City Chiefs, they picked DE first, DE second, LB third, LB fourth. The first 4 picks were defense, followed by QB and 3 straight WR's. Three players came from Tennessee State--Bennie Anderson's alma mater (also Avion Black, Richard Dent, and an OT this year, Willie Hall). No early-round defensive backfield. The first DE not named Mario Williams would be either Kamerion Wimbley or Manny Lawson, both would be Round 1 trade-downs. 2 2 Art Still Chiefs DE Kentucky 2 1 29 Sylvester Hicks Chiefs DE Tennessee State 2 58 Gary Spani Chiefs LB Kansas State 1 85 Danny Johnson Chiefs LB Tennessee State 20 104 Pete Woods Chiefs QB Missouri 2 112 Jerrold McRae Chiefs WR Tennessee State 24 134 Robert Woods Chiefs WR Grambling 18 184 Bill Kellar Chiefs WR Stanford 1 195 John Henry White Chiefs RB Louisiana Tech In 1987, Marv's first draft with the Bills, they picked 8th. Again the "draft the same position in successive rounds". This time It was LB, DB, DB, LB before picking Jamie Mueller on the Offense. Nate Odomes was that year's Wisconsin DB; this year's is Brett Bell, probably a 4th Rounder. Shane Conlan worked out well for Levy; Tamba Hali is this year's Top-Ranked Penn St. player. His stock is falling, and may be there in upper Round 3. 8 8 Shane Conlan Bills LB Penn State 1 29 Nate Odomes Bills DB Wisconsin 5 33 Roland Mitchell Bills DB Texas Tech 4 60 David Brandon Bills LB Memphis State 22 78 Jamie Mueller Bills RB Benedictine 25 109 Leon Seals Bills DE Jackson State 3 171 Kerry Porter Bills RB Washington State 14 209 Bruce Mesner Bills DT Maryland 4 227 Keith McKeller Bills TE Jacksonville State In 1999, with the Eagles, Tom Modrak as Head of Football Operations with Andy Reid, selected QB, LB, OL, OL. You all know the mobile Vince Young has been compared to Modrak's first pick. Note the string of 3 O-Linemen in his first draft. Also Note the Boston College lineman in Round 3. This year's BC O-Lineman is Jeremy Trueblood, OT who may be there in Round 3. Modrak's Cal lineman this year is Ryan O'Callaghan, who could go in Round 2. The other interesting move was trading a 5th to Detroit for a 4th Rounder the following year. He traded that 4th for a 3rd the following year. Modrak took a 6th round FB named Cecil Martin from Wisconsin, who played for 4 years. This year's late-round Fullbacks are Matt Bernstein and Lawrence Vickers. In 2000, Tom's first pick was #6, DT 1 Corey Simon (DT), Florida State. This year's Corey Simon is Broderick Bunkley. Corey was 6-2, 293. Broderick is 6'2", 306. In Round 2 Modrak took Todd Pinkston (WR), who played great for them for 5 years. Pinkston was a tall receiver like this year's Martin Nance, Damarius Bilbo, Devin Aromashodu, or Hank Baskett. Later-round or UDFA huge WR's include John Madsen, Sean Coffey, Nichiren Flowers, Drouzon Quillen, or D.J. Smith. 1 Donovan McNabb (QB), Syracuse, 2 2 Barry Gardner (LB), Northwestern, 35 2b Bobby Williams (OL), Arkansas, 61 3 Doug Brzezinski (OL), Boston College, 64 4a John Welbourn (OL), California, 97-- 4b Damon Moore (DB), Ohio State , 128compensation pick 4c Orlando Brown (WR), North Carolina, 130 6b Troy Smith (WR), East Carolina , 201 from Denver Happy Draft Day, everybody! obie_wan
the overriding attribute of this year's Bills draft class will be SPEED, with a definite defensive flavor.
apuszczalowski
Well everyone should be happy, it seems like the majority of there collective picks seem to be LB, DE, and OL with the occasional skill player for seasoning!

2003Contenders
I think when the smoke settles that TM amd ML will likely provide us with a somewhat boring draft. That isn't meant as an insult. The Bills probably won't do much in the way fo trading and will likely take players of value without raising any eyebrows. Considering that I for one think that they have done a pretty good job in free agency to the point where we can be slightly more flexible than would have otherwise been the case. Still, I fully expect us to come away with a OT, DT, and DB on Day 1. It just may not be in the order that we had hoped.
Max997
why do people always assume that head coaches are making the picks for their teams. There are only a few head coach / GMs in the league Jauron was not picking these guys, nor was Levy when he was head coach. They might have had some input but they were not making the picks
Astrobot
I HOPE Modrak does most of the picks! In that case, if history serves, It'll be: 1. DT Bunkley (reminding Modrak of Corey Simon and Florida State DT's) 2. OT O'Callaghan (reminding Modrak of John Welbourn OL California) 3A. OT Trueblood (reminding Modrak of Doug Brzezinski (OL), Boston College) 3B. WR Hank Baskett (reminding Modrak of when he drafted Pinkston) 4. DB Brett Bell (Wisconsin DB hearkening Levy back to Nate Odomes) 5. (Trade for a 4th Rounder Next Year) 5. Matt Bernstein FB, hearkening Levy back to Jamie Mueller 6. lateround steal DE like Leon Seals: Clayton Farrell 7 WR or TE like Troy Smith or McKellar: WR Willie Reid or TE Tyler Ecker 7 TennesseeState OT, Willie Hall or DT Jeff Littlejohn

MrB1onde
In Round 2 Modrak took Todd Pinkston (WR), who played great for them for 5 years. 673283[/snapback] Ok, this is where you lost me. The words "great" and "Pinkston" do not belong in the same hemisphere, much less the same sentence.
