stuckincincy
i think Lineart will be fine but i agree that Young is going to take a few years to develop.....i think he has Akili Smith written all over him. Cutler? i have no idea. 672799 Smith had a heck of an arm. But was a one-year wonder at Oregon - he played PGH Pirate minor-league baseball before, and attended OR, pretty much to see if he could make a go of football. He shouldn't have been picked where he was, and compounding that was that the B'gals owner demanded that his 1st-rounder get thrown into the lineup before he or the OL was ready. Akili, with his QB warts, was one tough cookie; he took big hits and gave them out. He was not a bum. Some speculated that he would be a more than decent WR or safety - they were probably right. Under the catagory of he who laughs last, Akili walked away with 10 million bucks of Mikie Brown's money.
Formerly Allan in MD
On the same show today, when asked about Hoge's comments, Sean Salisbury said Hoge is "crazy." Also, Salisbury really likes Brodie Croyle (a healthy one).
zow2
Just to expand on Hoge's comments from yesterday.... Leinhart - Played with WR's who were open by 8 feet. In the NFL you have to throw it to guys who are open by 8 inches. Not gonna happen says Merrill. He just doesn't have the arm or accuracy that will make him special at this level. Young - great athlete but his throwing skills are limited. Needs a lot of training. Probably could be groomed for another position ala Matt Jones. Cutler - great arm, great accuracy, great pocket presence & awareness, Leadership...has it all. Should be the 1st QB taken in the draft. He also likes Brodie Croyle but worries about his size and injury prone nature.
/dev/null
Clemons very well maybe the best QB years from now, but I wouldnt go on air and make a statement like that, would you? 672909 In the unlikely event he's still on the board for us in the 2nd I'd take him. Then try shopping JP for a 3rd or 4th next year
