dave mcbride Posted April 26, 2006 Posted April 26, 2006 Honestly, I think that you are right in the sense that Levy, who always loved to draft DBs, will not stop this alarming trend. Sadly, we will continue to lose unless our management changes their philosophy. 669948[/snapback] bill - you're being unfair to marv. the bills had a great offensive line when he was coach, and it's not as if the bills didn't draft offensive linemen high. in fact, during marv's 11 years as coach, they drafted three offensive linemen in the first round -- wolford, fina, and ruben brown. they also had a first round holdover in ritcher and very good players who weren't drafted early like hull and ballard. even john davis was a pretty good player when healthy. the point is that the bills didn't spend a ton of effort drafting for offensive line because they had far bigger problems on defense -- particularly in the secondary in the early 90s. henry jones, burris, and thomas smith (plus odomes, who was a second rounder) were at least in part drafted because of injuries to highly drafted guys like j.d. williams and derek burroughs but mostly because the bills couldn't cover anyone. they could rush the passer, though, which made everything look ok. you can't win in the nfl with a crappy secondary.
sven233 Posted April 27, 2006 Author Posted April 27, 2006 I agree with a lot of you in the fact that Levy is more likely to want to trade down than up. I know there are some rumors out there about Jauron wanting to move up for DA BRICK or Hawk, but I just don't see it. As much as I would love it if we got DA BRICK, I just don't see Marv wanting to trade up. In fact, I don't remember the last time we traded up, pre-Donahoe era. I was thinking today though.....if Nate isn't going to get signed long term, could he be used as trade bait? I mean, would you give up #8, Nate, and maybe our late 5th to move up to 2 to grad SuperMario or DA BRICK? I think I would do that. I don't know if that is enough for New Orleans, but I would at least make that phone call. What do you guys think?

Let's look at the chart (oh BTW, I won't give up Nate or any other Day 1 picks): #5 (1700) for #8 (1400), #$105(84), #134(39), #143(34.5), #178(21.2), and #216(6) 1700 > 1584.5 Nope, can't do it (unless they'll also take a 2007 #3), no trade-up.

The problem is, they will both be gone by #4 as it sits now. Tenessee won't be trading anywhere, so unless you want to work out a trade with New Orleans or NY, we won't have a shot at those guys.

It's been gone IMO since the throw-back game, and it's only gotten worse throughout the TD era, low-lighted by Sad Sack Drew and his loser ways. You can add Super Mario or Da Brick, and they will most likely turn out to be solid, all-pro players who will play a big role in improving this team while being silent leaders.... or you can add AJ Hawk, who will be everything those 2 players are PLUS change the identity & attitude of this whole defense... more so than even TKO with his losing Bungle legacy. THAT'S why I want Hawk.
JimBob2232 Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 1. Houston Reggie Bush 2. New Orleans Mario Williams 3. Tennesee Titans Vince Young 4. Oakland Matt Leinert 5. Green Bay Hawk 6. SF - Vernon Davis 7. NYJ - Brick 8. STL - Cutler 9. DET - Huff 10. ARZ - Winston Justice 11. BUF - Ngata I'm still unsure that Bush winds up with Houston. I suspect you might see a deal ALA the philip rivers/eli manning deal a couple years back. Though this time it would involve Furgeson or Mario...or possibly Vince Young
sven233 Posted April 28, 2006 Author Posted April 28, 2006 There are 2 guys in this draft that a lot of people have rated highly that I want NOTHING, and I mean NOTHING, to do with...... Ngata and Winston BOTH WILL BE HUGE BUSTS IN THE NFL..... Now, I am not real high on Bunkley either, but I think he will be a solid player....not a superstar, but a solid player. I do not like him at 8 though......I just think it is too high. I'd like to see us draft the best player available at that spot. If Huff is not there for some reason (along with any other of the top 7) trading down a few spots for Justice or Bunkley would not be a bad idea. I don't like either of those guys at 8. If I had it my way, DA BRICK would fall to us at 8 and we would trade up with Chicago to get back in the first round and draft none other than Nick Mangold!!!!!! Talk about improving an O-Line!!!!!!! Ya, I'm dreaming, but that would just be the best thing that could happen to the bills.
mary owen Posted April 28, 2006 Posted April 28, 2006 this is my stab at the entire 1st round....my ROUGH DRAFT i refuse to call mine a "mock" but it may look rough come tomorrow 1. HOU - Bush 2. If New Orleans chooses to stay at 2, they will take Bush as well and the Jets at #4 will take DA BRICK. But this is the order that will happen regardless of the teams that trade.
