inkman Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 feel those tax dollars getting sucked out of your pocket 666309 Arguably, the worst single financial deal in the history of mankind. Not only did the local Government bend over backwards to make this thing happen, they made sure every city tax payer is bending over forward without any lube. Good thing I live in the cushy burbs.

The British deal to fund Delorean's Northern Ireland plant was pretty horrible. And then there's the whole "Manhattan for beads" deal...
Beerball Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 And then there's the whole "Manhattan for beads" deal... 666329 Worked out well for the oppressor though. Sometimes win--lose deals happen. Take Rob Johnson for instance. Please! (Henny Youngman reference for the old timers)

Taro T Posted April 20, 2006 Posted April 20, 2006 feel those tax dollars getting sucked out of your pocket 666309 Considering that the City of Rochester will be out about $30MM when all is said and done, I don't really mind the $24,000 / day to give the new administration time to TRY to get the deal right this time. My gut feel is that there's the potential for the City to lose roughly another $5-10MM if they don't get the sale correct. At $24k/day (if Channel 13's #'s are correct, my guess is that they are high), it gives them somewhere between 20 - 40 days of "planning" time, before they would have been better off doing a Johnson and just jumping into the sale with both feet.

Marv's Neighbor Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 Try to arrange for a hurricane to form over Lake Ontario! The money will be never ending.
ACor58 Posted April 21, 2006 Posted April 21, 2006 That is what happens when a supreme idiot is elected by other uneducated idiots to run the city.

rockpile Posted April 22, 2006 Posted April 22, 2006 Is your Dad the Mayor of Rochester? 666353 For out of area folks, it was the former mayor, "Edsel" Johnson, who brokered the original Fast Ferry deal. The first sign that they might not have thought things out was when it did not fit through the St. Laurence Seaway locks to get onto Lake Ontario, without spreading butter on the sides. Current mayor Duffy was very influential in killing it before it bled taxpayers even more. And no, he is not MY dad either.
