The jet stream is dug south (a temp forecast map should show this) and that sit'n'spin sumbitch ain't movin.

It's a cut-off low.

Cya

P.S. Since a closed low is defined as a "deep" low pressure system, it can and often does have more than a single isobar around it.

Jet stream maps show otherwise, actually. I'm still satisfied saying maybe it's a cut-off low, until I hear from an actual meteorologist.

Point being, though, it's defined by being able to draw a single isobar around it. Doesn't matter how many more than one are around it; if there's one, it's a closed low.

That, my friends... THAT is global warming.

No, that looks more like a system of high pressure smug. <_<

Look at that jetstream graphic and consider that the Low has moved about 60' in the last 18 hours.

That cut off muther makes John Bobbit seem comparatively engaged.

Sucks to be in TN today.  Looks like they will be taking their boats to work today.

It's an absolutely gorgeous day in DC today. I'm giving serious thought to walking down to the Potomac with a bottle of wine and doing a little fishing.

That jet stream map is a lot clearer than the ones I found last night.

Still, I'm not going to admit I'm wrong because...well, because I'm me.

I'll weigh in and say Simon is closer to the truth although I have been on leave all week and have not been looking at weather charts. The low has been cut-off from the westerlies but will soon (if it has'nt already) be picked up by the jetstream late this week. Looks like it will bring a prolonged period of wet weather to WNY this weekend as it will be a slow mover.

I hope it's not anything like the Willamette here in Portland.

Catch and release. The fish and I understand each other.

And here I thought it was because you were afraid Ed would add it to the rest of his brilliant sig lines.

The fish and I understand each other.

You share enough wine and Berkley powerbait and anybody can find common ground.

 He's shared with me some of my other brilliant observations he has waiting in the wings. Gems like "I'm hungry", and "My shoelace is untied".

Well, let's hope that the fish don't have two heads or something. Can't promise you won't see that if you fish in the Willamette. The water is nasty.
