I thought that was a tremendous scene, and once you got past the ridiculously heavy racial basis (that was being created in order to elevate the more dramatic moments later on), the movie was extremely solid and in many ways even uplifting.

Precisely what I think prevent it from being a "great" movie...

Just when you think you're watching a Michael Moore-like "we're all a bunch of ignorant morons and let me show you why" flick, it reversed itself and really was terrific entertainment.

I agree, it was a riveting film, and entertaining...its' saving grace. For a "heavy message" film though, it was a sloppy mess, in my opinion. Not the worst movie I have ever seen, but overrated. I don't really expect all that much from the acadamy anyways....

Mr. Skin's review:

I can't sign off without talking about the Oscar upset of Brokeback Mountain, out on DVD today. Yes, it got beat out by Crash for best picture, though it did garner a Best Director statue for Ang Lee. He deserved it for flavoring this gay love story with enough female nudity to keep straight men from squirming too much. Anne Hathaway continues her maturation from The Princess Diaries to The Queen of Dirty, showing off her heavy rack in a car tryst. Michelle Williams, of Dawson's Creek fame, has a nice pair too. There's something for everyone on Brokeback Mountain.

Haven't seen it, but it may be worth a rental. Anne Hathaway MMMMM.
