inkman Posted April 14, 2006 Author Posted April 14, 2006 I'm just wondering how many of you who are complaining about working would instead have attended Stations of the Cross or the reading of the Passion? Except for Christmas, I've never expected religious holidays to be work holidays for the obvious reason that we can't close for every holiday and can't have certain people claiming religious bias if we don't close for their holiday. In most cases, I would think that people can schedule a vacation day if the religious holiday holds that much personal significance. 662119 I don't EXPECT to get any days off, but when the entire building is empty except for me, I get annoyed. The office personel/schedule makers don't give a rats !@#$ about what is going on here except when it involves them. If these people had to work when the place was actually in operation, their would be a lot less operation. Some of these people have NEVER been on the production floor. I guess I just have a personal gripe with these people.

When I finish this one I have another to create. I could only wish that one of my desk drawers had a cooler built in.
MattyT Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 I'm working, but at least enjoy looking forward to getting home to assemble a new grill. Mmmmm, steak tastes better on the weekend.
mead107 Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 just around the house trying to get everything ready to start doing decks next week .
Ramius Posted April 14, 2006 Posted April 14, 2006 We're all here, too, saving the world. But, we get 15 vacation days, 5 sick days, a floating holiday, and the week between X-mas and New Years off. To tell you the truth, I don't know of anybody that has today off. In Boston, Monday is a holiday because of the marathon. I'll probably use that as my floater. 662118 yup, i'm in the lab today as well. Cells dont take holidays off . But being a grad student means i staggered in a bit late, and am plannin to jet a bit early. The boss is pretty good, gives us a couple of weeks vacation during the year, then usually no one is around during xmas time. As for single days off here and there, he doesnt mind too much as long as you get your stuff done before you leave and that you dont abuse the system. Essentially it boils down to "take your week in the summer, take xmas off, and if you need a few days here and there throughout the year, then go ahead."

LewPort71 Posted April 15, 2006 Posted April 15, 2006 Today was a holiday with the new company I work for...But I worked today to trade for next Friday when I really need the day off... My choice and there were no bosses around so stuff went smoothly
Marv's Neighbor Posted April 15, 2006 Posted April 15, 2006 Guilty as charged! But wait, I'm off every Friday & Saturday.
Fezmid Posted April 15, 2006 Posted April 15, 2006 What job gives Good Friday off?! I don't remember ever hearing about anyone having the day off.... I worked. Got there early, hoping to leave early, but that didn't work out. Oh well, I have no complaints about my new job (yet...) . CW
GoodBye Posted April 15, 2006 Posted April 15, 2006 I worked. I don't get very many days off. Guess I'm too important.
Wacka Posted April 15, 2006 Posted April 15, 2006 At a previous job, they would give us Godd friday off. They also gave us Christmas and New years Eve off too and let us go at noon before Thanksgiving, those Christmas and New Years days and 4th of July because people would take sick days off too. Guess it was too much, since hey got sold, laid off everyone here and moved it to Mass.
HopsGuy Posted April 15, 2006 Posted April 15, 2006 What job gives Good Friday off?! I don't remember ever hearing about anyone having the day off.... 662474 The US equity and futures markets are closed. Many of the NYSE specialists are Roman Catholic, so it's sort of been a tradition for that exchange to have the day off. Once they retire that antiquated system, that holiday will go away. 24/7 stock markets anyone?

CW 662474 A job that was created by Millionaire Italians, that's who. I love my job but some of the stuff that goes on here is very Eurocentric.
