dib Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 I went to Miami to see the Titanic exhibit. Signs, as usual were printed in Spanish and English. What really got my knickers in a knot was a sign at the entrance that said something to the effect: "Just because the English version is written on top doesnt mean that we place more importance on one language over another" Last I looked this was the United States, not the Estados Unidos.
Catholic Guilt Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 Enough to make you sick. We are heading down the road to PC hell.

It's just the way of the world, my friend.

Marv's Neighbor Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 Theodore Roosevelt's ideas on Immigrants and being an AMERICAN in 1907. "In the first place, we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the person's becoming in every facet an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says ! he is a n American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag... We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language... And we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people." Theodore Roosevelt 1907

What the !@#$? 661349 The last two days, the student newspaper here at The University of Texas has printed letters from people who claim that English really isn't "our" language and that the United States shouldn't have "a language." Therefore, no one should have to learn English ever because that would be giving in to the demands of the "white supremecists" in America.

IDBillzFan Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 Here's another example of us being overly apologetic. Tiger Woods Apologizes For Calling Himself A "Spaz." Why, I remember when Spaz was a lovable underdog, setting the record straight for every Spaz everywhere by winning the "carry-an-egg-on-a-spoon" competition in "Meatballs."

Dr. Fong Posted April 13, 2006 Posted April 13, 2006 So, for now on we will communicate through a series of grunts, clicks and whistles. 661371 Yeah it's amazing to me that a great majority of the rest of the world is busting their ass trying to learn English, but we have to tolerate nonsense like this.
