Nagin is a wimp @#$#$, no backbone politician, but these residents are garbage and should be denied all future Federal assistance and return any that they have received.

So much for Christian beliefs, not the way I was raised, we housed a family in our house during the Blizzard of 77 when their power went out and ours didn't.

Couldn't they find a better place for a trailer park than within a gated community? How many gated communities around the country would agree to let the Gov't build a trailer park within their community? Probably none.

Gated communities usually have all kinds of restrictions for their residents including the color that you paint your house, type of roof, and whether you can even park a pickup truck in your driveway. These restrictions are meant to keep the community housing values up. Forcing these people to accept a trailer park within their community just because they have some open space is wrong.

Good points, however, it is very likely that they needed to be close to sources of sewer, water, eletric, etc... without having to completely revamp the infrastructure, and trying to do something quickly. Also notice that these were intended for single women with children. It is likely they were also trying to offer them some "minimal" protection that they may not get in a community that is out of the way or worse yet in the squallers with tons of homeless men or men in shelters. Not a good combination.
