Nanker Posted August 21, 2004 Posted August 21, 2004 Who wants players on their team that DON'T want to start? Isn't that what the turnoff about Volek was? The guy's happy to be a million dollar bench warmer. :I starred in Brokeback Mountain: You gotta admit, the scenario TD caused is a perfect setup for controversy. It resurfaced with media grunts scraping for a juicy camp story and Travis bit. What's Willis to do? Sit back and say, gee I'm soooooo happy to be in the NFL I won't squawk for years. I'll just sit on the bench and collect my paycheck and be a good cat. Yeah, F - THAT! He ain't built that way, and I'm glad he isn't. Would that a number of Bills in the past had that kind of desire and drive. They might have actually won one of those four Super Bowls instead of just being happy to make it to the games.
turd ferguson Posted August 21, 2004 Posted August 21, 2004 that may have been true 10 years ago, but nowadays it seems that talk is more important than performance. you used to have to prove yourself, now all you need to do is be a whiner(keyshawn)
Nanker Posted August 21, 2004 Author Posted August 21, 2004 Now, I'm taking a different view. Willis should be given a chance to win the starting job during the preseason. If not - then why the Hell did TD bring him in here? He could be the next real deal, but we won't know unless he gets to play. If he thinks he's ready to go, then turn him loose and let him run. We're all assuming his knee isn't ready to go yet. Maybe it is. How much tuneup do you think Travis needs this preseason? I'm hoping to see a lot of Willis in the next three weeks. Either one of them could be out for the season by just walking across the practice field and catching their toe in the grass. If it's going to happen, it's going to happen. Willis is the guy that needs to get the rust off and start proving himself. Frankly, I hope this gets lots hotter in the weeks ahead.
stevestojan Posted August 21, 2004 Posted August 21, 2004 wait, i thought NFL players were just concerned about winning the Super Bowl, not starting, or taking the most snaps, etc. Don't NFL players play for the love of the game? That's what I heard. And if that's so, and Travis sees Willis might be better, why wouldnt he want to be second string? Im sure he just wants whats best for the team, and he isnt concerned about personal statistics or achievments.

One fan got up and asked the eventual "Why do you play the game" question. All of them answered the default "for the love of the game" BS, except Donovan McNabb who proclaimed that "he did it for the ladies". Now THAT is honesty my friends. As for Henry and McGahee...let them B word all they want. If McGahee cant cut it during the regular season against the starters, well he'll make our decision very easy. If he holds up, then Henry is gone after this season. The media is trying to play this up like this is news, we Bills fans have had this figured out for the last year and a half. People need to mellow out and realize that one of them is gone at the end of this season, and whoever gets traded should be happy because I'm assuming they'll get traded to a team where they can start.
