BRH Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 Is Duke Jupiter still around? They could play "You Gotta Love The Wrong Ones" for the bride-groom dance!
BRH Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 What about Otis Day? "Wait 'til OTIS sees us! He LOVED us!"
stevestojan Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 In all honesty, i would go with a DJ... one band will bore people after a while, even if they are good. You should be able to change up the music dramatically throughout the the night. Plus, its probably alot cheaper (if that is a concern).
TPS Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 We had Outer Circle Orchestra. Pretty sure they are still performing. We had a DJ do the traditional stuff, then OCC came on the last couple of hours. Reggae/rock, lots of energy. Everyone was dancing.
nodnarb Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 u2 would probably rock the house. or the Who.
BRH Posted September 28, 2004 Posted September 28, 2004 We had Gap Mangione and his band play at our wedding. I suppose it was too much to hope for Chuck to show up unannounced with his flugelhorn, but it was a blast nonetheless; Gap had a great time since my wife's family is Italian. And my best man, a reasonably accomplished jazz sax player, got to sit in with the band for a few songs. It beat hearing "Brick House," "YMCA," and "We Are Family." Who you get necessarily depends on your budget and your audience. If you don't have a lot to drop on music and the audience is relatively young, get a DJ. If you get a band, make sure you get a chance to hear them at a wedding or two before you sign the contract. And think about how the band's appearance will go over with older guests if you have them. I'm good friends with Jamie Notarthomas out of Syracuse and love his music, but I couldn't ask a bearded, tie-dyed dude reeking of the ganja to play our wedding. (He hates playing weddings anyway so I doubt he'd be offended.)
