Why I WELCOME "8 or 9" in-the box def's

Cincy got fried by Jamal Lewis on Sunday. Not the 1st time for them. Jamal Lewis blasted CLE twice last year. CLE was murdered.

People say "Drew is so bad, they line up in 8 in the Box so we can't run".

Well, I'm no DB fan.

BUT if a defense lines up 8 or 9 out of 11 players to stuff your run, because they think your QB is a stiff, AND if your RB gets through that concentration, you will get 30-40-50-TD yards.

I watched Corey Dillon for years do just that.

If I'm a coach with any brains, I love to see 8 on the line - I send 2 recievers out opposite of where I plan to run (they have to be covered), so there is one safety valve to chase after my RB if he pops through, pull the off-guard to plow after the melee, in or outside with my RB following and then he is in open field heaven. Or faced with only 3 in the def backfield, my TE curl gets me a first down. because the defense has chosen to shrink the area that they can defend.

IMO, putting "8 in the box" is as dumb as 6 DB's playing prevent.

For the first, if the RB pops past, goodbye, and for the second, a wide run play gets me 10+.
