I'm quite sure there's a law against that.  Why in the hell do people think it's OK to let their cats run around outside?  Would you have posted the same thing if the cat had killed 10 neighborhood birds or would that have been nature taking its course?

I have owned both cats and dogs, currently have a cat and a Lab/Pit mix. The dog is stubborn, dumb, but the sweetest dog I have ever met, except in dealing with other aggressive breeds. He doesn't start fights, but doesn't back down, so we have to be careful around other similar types. Really, all he wants to do is play, but some dogs have to work out the dominance thing and he is one.

 

The above cat story I thought was hysterical....Avaon lady, but notice they aren't putting the cat down, but did arrest the owner.

Also Pit bulls are typically owned by the lowest creatures (sorry Alaska Darin, Typically I don't think you)  and years of Rednecks, and Gangsta teaching to kill have made the bred worse.  Like guns i don't think they should be in everyones hands.

I'd say that's probably not true and is a media driven stereotype. That said, I've never owned a pit bull. I took one in because it needed a home to rehab and then I adopted it to a carefully screened new owner. Growing up we had German Shepards. My wife and I chose Dobermans. Initially because we wanted a short haired dog and currently because we really like the breed. Intelligent, athletic, and loyal. Everything a dog person could want.

 

You're correct in that pit bulls are the current choice of scum, though. I remember when it was German Shepards, Rotts, and Doberman's being villified. Some things never change, including the emotion of people who know very little about the breed except what the media tells them over and over again.

Sounds like a flashback...get help quick...Bushmaster eh....yeesh. A friend who has been over to Tialand to some Buddist monestary tells a story about looking out for them. He said they often bite first, then figure out why they bit later.

 

He had one come off an embankment right by his head accross a path in the jungle and if he had taken another step...scared the hell out of him.

Where did I blame the cat?  Or is this yet another emotional response because some friggin' cat died?  I sure ain't losing any sleep because a dog owned by a gang banger killed some ladies cat because she was too stupid to leave it in the house when she left.

I remember my roommate got a pitbull, and he also was a very sweet dog. He got him as a puppy.

 

I would push the dog's buttons and roughouse, but he never once took it too far, and he knew playing vs not playing.

 

When my roommate first got the dog, the vet told him not to let the dog stay like in an unlocked car or on our porch, as they are extremely friendly, and people will actually take them and the dog will go with them.

 

I thought you all on this board hated media sensationalism?

Just got informed it couldn't have been a Bushmaster...wrong continent. I will have to contact this said friend and find out which snake it was, oh well.

The kids are luckier than hell. Apparantly, they were !@#$ing with it for a while before they pointed it out to somebody. Whoever somebody was didn't recognize it as a local, and called animal control - who showed up and turned sort of pale. Wasn't no baby, either. Maybe a five footer?

Five foot would be a baby. Those things get pretty big. Longest viper, I believe...though diamondback rattlers weigh more. I think they're one of the "chewing" species, too...that bite deep, grab on tight, don't let go, and inject as much venom as they can as deeply as they can get it.

Yeah I think their venom is actually less poisonous than many other vipers, but the sheer quantity of what they can inject with a single bite is what makes them so lethal.

Something like a 75% fatality rate?
