The Avenger Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 The asking price is not necessarily going to be the sale price. If there are really several teams ready to put up, then the price will go up. It is a great thing that Houston is in on this. They have the first pick in each round, I believe, so any team that wants to beat them out has to raise the price by a round. In other words, if the Texans are already willing to give up the first pick in the fourth, then any other team has to come up with at least a thrid-rounder to stay in the Moulds sweepstakes. 643052 The flip side of this argument also holds true - if nobody is willing to give a 3rd or even a low 4th for Moulds and Eric claims he'll not play another game for the Bills, his value goes down. I don't know how it happens, but it always seems like the market price is very low for whatever the Bills are selling - remember what we got for Travis, even after going to the Pro Bowl? Last good trade we made was Peerless.
SnakeOiler Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 Still, if all these teams are interested in Eric, I have to believe they are also interested in Javon walker, right? That will have the reverse effect to reduce Moulds value. If I was a GM, assuming javon is healthy (big assumption), I would rather have walker.
truth on hold Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 A league official familiar with the negotiations said Sunday night that the Bills are asking for a fourth-round pick. 643019 nice move clowns, when we could have had TO instead. yap about "character" all you want, but ill take a damaged goods TO (who can be cut at any time) over a #4 anyday.
TDRupp Posted March 27, 2006 Posted March 27, 2006 1. The Bills will not get any 3rd round compensatory picks. They were net zero in free agent pick ups and will be lucky to get a 7th rounder. 2. The 4th rounder discussed in relation to Houston is the 1st pick in the 4th round. Likely the Bills would be looking for a 3rd rounder from a different trading partner. 643063 Point 1: I agree that is how it has played out but I feel they should weigh contract #'s more heavily. What were our players lost? This is what I have: UFA Siged: Kelly Holcomb (8 starts 4 yrs. $6.6 M, SB $2 M) and Bennie Anderson (14 starts 3 yrs. $5.1 M, SB $1.5 M) UFA Lost: Jonas Jennings (3 starts 7 yrs. $36M, $12M SB) and Pat Williams (16 starts 3 yrs $13M, $6M SB, Incentives $2M -Pro Bowl) Net loss is 0, and if they weigh starts in first year of new contract more than the size and/or performance of the players, then we will be lucky to get a 6th or 7th rounder. If they weigh contract size and perfomance (not sure they can do this unless they make a pro bowl b/c otherwise if would be very subjective in determining how good a player performed) the same or more then only #of starts then I'd say we have a shot at a 5th rounder. I'd be shocked if they gave us a 4th or higher although it would have been possible with 16 starts and a pro bowl by Jennnings.
