Good Example how to handle out of line players

It is interesting how California Angels dealt with Jose Guillen. Guillen has been a very emotional player where ever he played and has a me first persona. It would seem that this past weekend that it came to a head with Guillen getting hit with a pitch his manager Mike Scioscia sending in a runner to run for him and Guillen not liking this and making a public display of himself, throwing his arms in the air, throwing his helmet in the general direction of Manager. Even though the team is in a very close race with at least some hope still for playoff position they decided that it was more important that all understood that team comes first and such behaviour will not be tolerated as they suspended Guillen for the remainder of season. Good show that management had the Managers back on this rather than the star player, often such stars get their misbehaviour rationalized in different fashions rather than dealt with often in the end it’s the manager gets the grief and in end with lack of respect ultimately loses his job, that California Angels have had success and are currently this sort of strong decision making shows why. They had the courage to make the tough call for the better even if on the short term they may suffer, in the long view they will succeed.
