The UAE?

After the recent flak over the port securities issue I can't even imagine the posturing that would be going on if somebody suggested we paid a ME country to provide services for US troops.

So, the US uses naval and air bases in the UAE (and Saudi Arabia) for free?

Cool. :)

No wonder they wanted to infiltrate our ports and kill us all!

WASHINGTON - Halliburton Co. failed to protect the water supply it is paid to purify for U.S. soldiers throughout Iraq, in one instance missing contamination that could have caused “mass sickness or death,” an internal company report concluded.

Yeh, and the army paid them anyway!

They catch an awful lot of flak, but the question I always have is "Who could and would do a better job?"

632165

We'll never know because nobody had to bid and make a case what they would do and for what price.

Giving a no bid contract to a contractor who takes heat for not doing a good job and then turn deflecting that heat by asking who would have done better is a cop out. You want to know who would have done better? - ask the people who made the decision in the first place and have them justify their decsion.

This is just like the Bushies who, when criticized on Iraq, come back with, "well, what would YOU do?" I don't have to answer that question and figure out the solution - YOU'RE the people who ^&%'ed it up in the first place - you solve it, genius.

bull sh--. It is a legitimate question. Of not Haliburton, who would you send a bid package to for a quote? It seems like you want to purposely avoid the question.

I just don't know what other contractor has the necessary infrastructure, experience, contacts, resources, personell, etc to do any better of a job than Haliburton could or does. It's an indescribably massive job and there are bound to be mistakes made regardless of who is undertaking it. I just have no idea who else could even reasonably be considered for it. I agree that I'm a bit uncomfortable with the no-bid policy, but if these guys are undoubtedly the best prepared to deal with the multitude of issues which are bound to arise, then we should go with them instead of trying to cut corners with troops' comfort.

And before I get inaccurately pigeonholed you should know that I consider this administration to be the most dishonest, bungling group of jackasses in my lifetime.

Another example of why the dems keep losing.

Why am I avoiding the question? I'm not avoiding it, just simply pointing out that the question was never asked until everything was messed up and now those not responsible for it are being asked how to fix it or how it could have been done better. There's no way to know - that train left the station when Haliburton got the contract without a bid.

Who would I send it to? I don't know - I'm not in purchasing for the military. I suppose like most other govt contracts it would have been made public with a request for responses/bids and any company who thought they could do the job could have thrown their hat into the ring. If they'd bothered to do that perhaps you'd have a list of who could have possibly done it better.

Explain to me again why the Dems are supposed to come up with solutions to all the problems created by the Bush Administration?

They keep losing because they keep trying to answer for the mistakes of others. They need to step up and make it clear that those who got us into this mess in the first place should be the ones trying to fix it and if they can't do it they should be replaced.

Ummm...because you refuse to answer it??? Deflect and avoid. Nice.

632587

When someone hires me to go put that contract out for bid I'll give you a list of people who could do the job and presumably do it better. Until then you'll have to ask the jackasses who actually shirked that task and got us into the current mess.

But, if you're so anxious to get an answer, why don't you answer your own question - who would YOU have hired?

Little known fact: at the start of the invasion of Iraq, the border defenses ("the berm") on the Iraq/Kuwait border weren't breached by the US Army...or ANY army, for that matter. They were breached by Kuwaiti civil engineers.

Just thought it was interesting. Maybe even relevant.

Deflect and avoid. The fastest way to lose credibility. Thanks for playing.

Uhhhh...because they keep trying to get him out of office?

You're not actually saying the Democrats should try to regain the executive branch without intending to solve the problems they inherit? B-) They better have a !@#$ing plan, if they want the job.

It is tough to get elected when you are incapable of solving anything. Why the hell should we elect people who say, "oh well, I have no answers. Let someone else figure it out."
