Wow, what a rip off......I know that wasn't the point of your post, but you could do something like that a WHOLE lot cheaper than 7k.

A good friend of mine on Long Island used to come to my landloard's kids' parties with a very nice projector/dvd/HUGE screen set up. The kids would watch movies and play video games outside and loved it. The whole thing couldn't have cost more that $2-3K.

Heck yeah, I've got a projector casting a 9' wide image on some screen goo paint (a special acrylic, reflective paint used in lieu of a 'real' screen: http://www.hometheaterforum.com/gallery1/m...g2_itemId=3951), and a pretty expensive Denon universal player, and it's nowhere NEAR 7k. I could easily take this outside right now, tack a clean white sheet over a large piece of cardboard, hook up a few speakers, and the experience would be as good or better. Fezmid's projector and screen are better than mine, and even his rig would be significantly less than 7k. Hopefully people will research before dropping that kind of money on something that can be had for so much less.

I paid less than that for my entire HT setup (excluding chairs). <_< Yeah, I got some great deals on some of the stuff, but still....

:lol::lol:

There's also no way that the picture looks that good with that much sunlight out there.

Not that I'm not with you on the HT side of things. Lord knows I've spent more on that than my parents did on their first home...

I wouldn't call it kick ass. When my basement is finished (probably misleading, as I have yet to even start) that one will be better because it will have a projector vice plasma.

Currently:

Yamaha HTR-5990 receiver

Axiom M60Ti fronts

Axiom EP500 Sub

Axiom VP150 Center

Axiom QS8 Surrounds

Pioneer 5051HD Plasma

DirectTV 10-250 HD Tivo

Sony DVPNS70H HD DVD (pretty low end but is getting me through until someone really sets a standard).

Monster Power Home Theater Power Bar 1100

Monster Power HTFS 1000

Got really good deals on everything except the speakers (Axiom's prices are really good for what they are anyway).

That's awesome! I am very familiar with Axiom.....another one of those awesome Canadian manufacturers of whom I'm quite fond <_< I have yet to hear ANYTHING Canadian that I didnt love to death....PSB, Paradigm, Totem, Energy, etc.....all great stuff, with Axiom arguably being the best value of all being that they are internet direct. I'm definitely a fan of front projectors, but if you're running an HD signal through your plasma, that has got to be a thing of beauty! Are you doing 5.1 or 7.1? Do you like those surrounds? I've heard nothing but praise for them.....I'm in the process of finishing up a deal on some mains that will essentially price me out of their surrounds, so even though it's not ideal, I may play around with some other stuff in back to see what works. I keep reading about how the Axioms excel with regard to diffusion, which is really what I would need in my room. One of my side walls sort of caves in with a fireplace, which means a direct radiating speaker would feel like it's beaming right at my head.....even with proper calibration, I just don't like direct radiators as surrounds.....I've had those QS8s on my short list for a while now!

I've got it even worse than you because my living room/dining room/entry way/kitchen/breakfast nook are all within the same mostly wall-less space. It's a terrific aesthetic design but it's hell on the home theater.

I have them in the 5.1. I don't think 7.1 buys you much and I'm not sure I have many DVDs that are optimized for it anyway. I think the QS8s are the best designed surround speakers I've ever heard and the price point makes them even better.

All in all I like pretty much everything I've gotten so far, even the low end Sony DVD player - which looks spectacular compared to regular DirectTV signals (almost the difference between it and the HD).
