But, on the contrary, the trend has been to legitimize the tactics used against the West and indulge those employing them. Mass murdering civilians, torching churches and even mosques do not spark major protests anywhere. Nor has there been serious action in response from the United Nations, the international courts and prominent human rights organizations." and then consider "All this is happening at a time when there is a very real possibility of chemical, biological or even nuclear weapons coming into the possession of militants who believe, as al-Qaeda in Iraq commander Abu Musab al-Zarqawi put it, that “Killing the infidels is our religion, slaughtering them is our religion, until they convert to Islam or pay us tribute." Food For Thought (for the able) 624929[/snapback] Interesting ...widespread public outrage and revulsion, if it brought shame and disrespect upon those who committed such acts and on the causes they claim to champion... For the life of me I do not know how this is ever gonna change in a world where there is a huge disparity in wealth and what hope life brings (in a western sense that is). The populace of the world is in dispair where over 50% of all wealth is controlled by 12% of the population... 7% of that is controlled by white America. Wow... A lot in there... Take it for what it is worth, I heard it during the priest's (deacon) homily. But, the point isn't money and wealth (just thought I throw it in there)... It is hope and perception amongst the forlorn populace (in a western sense that is). Big order to fill... Hearts and minds... Where did I hear that before? Can't we "Island Hop" around this problem?...

The have-nots that CAN be aware they are not deprived by their position in life but by their governments slowly make progress. "Big order to fill... Hearts and minds... Where did I hear that before?" You don't have to win their hearts and minds - just give them a reason outside of abject socialism/slavery to better themselves - it happens all the time. People will always look out for themselves and their families first and then their prosperity goes to others. It's fundamental human behavior. Hell, the American Revolution took fifteen years until the Constitutional Convention. Then, American (real) independence was a damn close thing until after the War of 1812. The whole "Republic" thing wasn't settles for another 53 years and even then foreign governments were meddling in our affairs. The idea that the US can build something in Iraq/Pan-Asia in five years or less is sheer lunacy - the native people on the ground will decide and prosperity is the way. Stupid - single minded insurgents only live on chaos - they are humanity's cockroaches and deserve their fate As bad as our "illegal;" immigrant problem is - what drives it ? Basically a totally corrupt Mexican government based on a pyramid of 99% of the populace ruled by 1% - so don't pick on the US there - except for 40+ years of US elected government that has allowed the situation to continue and worsen. Jedi fight for civilzation, because only civilization creates peace." Mace Windu

The dreamer side of me wants it to work. I try hard to think of these things in this perspective... I am also a realist. We sit atop the "world pyramid" saying it can be done... I hope it can be done.
