millbank Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 The Boston Globe reports that the Patriots released the NFL's all-time postseason sack leader just after the CBA extension was announced around 8:35 p.m. (et). The cost-cutting move ends McGinest's 12-year tenure in Foxboro. McGinest was owed $7 million for the upcoming season, and although New England was not in danger of exceeding the new $102 million salary cap, McGinest reportedly told the Globe a week ago that he felt the move was coming. McGinest
TheMadCap Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 So ol Willie "left leg" McGinest is out huh? Good, anything that hurts NE is good for us...
Max997 Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 he is gone for now, The Pats would like to bring him back and a lower cap figure then the 7 mil he was going to have my guess is he ends up back with the Pats

McGinest 622206 the guy must be pushing 40.I think they wee kind to keep him around as long as they did.
scribo Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Why would they need to keep McGinest when they have a real American hero in theit linebacking corps? He saved puppies for crying out loud.
Mile High Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 Why would they need to keep McGinest when they have a real American hero in theit linebacking corps? He saved puppies for crying out loud. 622317 They could play 10 and let Tedy play Willie's position. That would be no problem for him.
MadBuffaloDisease Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 he is gone for now, The Pats would like to bring him back and a lower cap figure then the 7 mil he was going to have my guess is he ends up back with the Pats My bet is he ends up with Cleveland. Crennel's there and they have tons of cap room.
Thailog80 Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 BP loves Willie. Dallas will put up big offers for W Mac and Adam Vinatieri.
stuckincincy Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 the guy must be pushing 40.I think they wee kind to keep him around as long as they did. 622310 Why not keep him? He's been effective for years, in flattening Bills players.
MadBuffaloDisease Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 BP loves Willie. Dallas will put up big offers for W Mac and Adam Vinatieri. I think Dallas will make a push and between them and Cleveland, will outprice what NE wants to spend. In any case, they're both likely gone from the Pats and that hurts them a lot.

MadBuffaloDisease Posted March 9, 2006 Posted March 9, 2006 If he wants to add to that all time post season sack record he better not sign w/ us....... I don't see the Browns or Cowboys being playoff teams any faster, and McGinest is coming close to the end of the line. He should take the best offer given that, and since he's won 3 rings.
