Russian President Vladimir Putin praised the country's Olympic medallists Monday, and then told them that they will each be given a new car.

 

The men will get a Toyota Land Cruiser, while the women will receive a Lexus.

 

"Your success has once again affirmed Russia's high status sports power," Putin said at a ceremony in Kremlin hall.

 

The gifts will be funded by wealthy businessmen, Russian media reported

So how much is gas in Russia these days? No doubt the Land Cruiser would do better on the Russian roads-they're really bad! :doh:

Does this negate their amateur status? They are receiving money/reward for their performance in an athletic competition.

 

Then again, the IOC lets NHL players strap on the skates.

Looked around and found this article . It says Russians pay on average between 2.17 and 2.36 a gallon. The U.S average is 2.27, so it would appear they pay about the same

 

Gasoline in Russia

 

 

 

My guess is near $5 per gallon.

It's all relative to how much they make per capita.
