Will Rick James be appearing ala Bernie ('Weekend at Bernie's') because he's one dead B word?!

If you want Buffalo to get a Superbowl you will have to build a new stadium. Probably will have to have a roof as well.

But yeah, the way it works is that if you get a new stadium you can get a Superbowl if you want it.

Only downside is that you have to have a roof........not Buffalo Football.

If a SB meant the Bills needed/got a new stadium that had a dome (or a retractable dome, preferrably), I wouldn't care if it's "Buffalo Football" or not. These are harsh economic times where sentimentality has little place.

I would definitely care. Football was meant to be played outdoors! I remember watching the Bills vs fish game a few years ago in December when the snow was blasting through the Ralph horizontally, it was classic football. Ricky ran for over 200 yards against us that day, but we still won, great game, great day!

Well, there is a lot more that goes into it. As brought up in other posts, you are looking at more hotels, travel arrangements, etc.........there is a lot that goes into it.

Now, I am not against it at all, but here is the thing.......if we were to go ahead and build all the hotels and do all that other stuff for the Superbowl, what happens to all that stuff after the Superbowl is over? I mean, this is not really a prime destination for tourists. How would we continue the funding for all those additions that a Superbowl demands?

I agree, in the short term it is a huge help. But what happens after the game is over? That's the question.

That I don't know. I was just saying that if Buffalo had a chance to host a SB that was contingent on a (retractable or not) domed stadium, they should do it.

Like I said, in the short term, it would be great. But all that stuff would just waste away here after the game is over. It really isn't something that you could just blow off. If we had more attractios here.......Bass Pro Shop, Waterfront development, etc.......and we made this area a bigger attraction, it might be worth it. But, that is a reach. There is a lot that would have to happen. It would be very difficult for this area to maintain all the new rennovations at a high level. That right there might be a bigger consideration than the stadium!

While I love Ralph Wilson Stadium, and think it is fine for NFL football, it doesn't really compare, in terms that corporate America (ie: those who get to attend the Super Bowl) prioritizes, with Arrowhead....

I agree, but they've had it at Sun Devil. I love the location and atmosphere of that stadium, but I've seen high school's with better amenities.

Obviously we can't compare Phoenix and Buffalo weather.

Let's say Buffalo builds the Stadium and Hotels needed for a Superbowl.

What about other infrastructure? More Freeways? Better Metro/Public Transportation systems? New Peace Bridge?

It will take a lot more than just a new stadium and hotels for a Superbowl.

Exactly what I was saying. There is a lot more to think about than the stadium. That being said, the Superbowl will most likely never be here.

A good friend and I were talking why more Superbowls have not been here where I am. (Bay Area).

- Hotels? Check

- Public Transportation? BART. Check

- Freeway System? Check

-Stadium? uhhh, no.

If KC get is, good on them! I've never been to KC, so I cannot comment on how it would do as a host city. It is just plain difficult to get the game. (Unless you're located in Florida...)

Lets get real.  KC is is a great city if you have ever been there.

I lived in KC for a year, and while I think the scene at Arrowhead is awesome I cannot agree with you that 'KC is a great city'. Head downtown on a weekday and you'll see why they are the kings of the midwest for urban sprawl. I don't think they have anything more than Buffalo has for entertaining out-of-towners, unless you count barbecue. I still like KC but it's not head and shoulders above Buffalo.

That was an awesome game. I billieve we made the Miami QB Lucas cry. There is nothing like a snowy game in Buffalo.

how would KC possibly have enough hotel rooms? If Jacksonville didn't have enough hotel rooms (not even close) how would KC pull it off?  I know it's 9 years off, but still...

The Kansas City Metro Area, by some measures, is about 50% larger than either the Jacksonville or Buffalo metro areas. I'm sure that helps generate a lot more hotel rooms than either.

I think all the talk of a Super Bowl in Buffalo is ridiculous. The city would have to do some major surgery to it's national image before there's even a prayer of it happening.

Some things woud have to happen first:

1) New stadium with roof

2) Take Chippawa Street and multiply it at least 10 times

3) Some more hotels, however bringing some cruise ships and docking them near the arena could be a viable temporary solution.

4) Build some nice casinos

5) Adopt the same rules governing Canadian strip clubs: everything off, full-contact!

6) No last call during Super Bowl week. Booze 24/7!

7) Make sure that all the stadium, hotel rooms, nightclubs, strip joints, and restaurants are all in close proximity to each other so people don't have to drive all over to get to a party.

Do all that and MAYBE you'd have a shot at a Super Bowl.

Actually, it would take a *lot* more hotel rooms. Moreover, Buffalo doesn't have much of a cruise ship terminal, and in any case, there aren't generally an awful lot of cruise ships on Lake Erie, so the cruise ship option is hardly viable.

Cruise ships can access Buffalo through the St.Lawrence Seaway and the Wellend Canal. While there is no official cruise ship dock, large ocean-going freighters can easily dock in the Union Canal and Buffalo River.

I didn't say it was easy. Just possible.

Fair enough.

Of course, paying the "dead head" time for an empty cruise ship to sail from whatever locality people actually want to cruise too up to Buffalo is probably prohibitively expensive as well. And believe it or not, many modern cruise ships aren't able to tarverse the Welland Canal any more - which was built for thinner cargo vessels than modern cruise ships.
