what about the teams who are abidding by the rules and released players?

well, in all likelyhood, the cba will still not be settled by monday and the teams over the cap will still have to purge. i do agree though that this is a move that some teams who have prepared well will be rightly very upset about. most notably denver and miami. as far as we're concerned i don't know that the lower cap had such a profound effect on our cuts.

Now the cover story on espn.com cites an an anonymous nfl source as saying players released during this "time of uncertainty" can be reclaimed by their teams?

Bingo.  I guess all you can say is that those teams ought to have waited til 9:59:59 PM EST to make their cuts.  Live and learn, Marv.

Live and learn? I think the players released yesterday would likely have been released regardless of the deadline. I think there is a "second tier" of cuts that will happen based on when this is "finalized" (buzzer-beaters, as it were).

Imagine the player who gets the phone call: "Remember when we said we cut you? Just kidding..."
