Took a pay cut

Jets | Martin takes a big cut

Tue, 28 Feb 2006 05:26:02 -0800

Gary Myers, of the New York Daily News, reports New York Jets RB Curtis Martin's pay cut was a hefty one: The Jets cut his 2006 base salary from $6.2 million to $2.5 million, saving them $3.7 on the cap.

I've always liked Martin and his team attitude. Savings of 3.7 on the cap is huge and this guy deserves some props for the move. Even if he is a stinkin Jet.

He wouldn't have gotten half that on the open market with a surplus of younger free agent talent at the position and in the upcoming draft. This paycut not only made sense for the team, it made sense for HIM.

The same will happen to EM....He is really dreaming if he thinks there is

ateam out there that is willing to pay him 6M this year.

EM can't be that stupid... he knows that as well. But some team will ponly up $2-3 mill or so to have him for 1-2 years... and he'd rather take a paycut playing in a decent offense that scores more than 10 points a game than take a paycut playing in an anemic offense with an unsettled QB situation.

The fact that the Bills aren't willing to pay him 6M is the issue as Moulds would happily play for 6M! They want him to take a paycut and play for about 4M. Next to TO, Moulds would probably be the only premier free agent WR out there worth taking a chance on paying 4M for. I'm sure a team on the bubble that needs a WR like Philly or ATL definitely wouldn't mind paying him close to 4M; no less than 3M. So why would he take a paycut for us when he has restructured numerous times to help the team (so actually he is owed this money from previous season where he EARNED it by his play on the field) and play for a team that once again is going thru a regime change. If this were a similar WR such as Joe Horn who is a good WR who played for team that constanly tinkers with average success but more often than not failed to make the playoffs and declined to restructure and was available for about 4M in this weak WR free agent pool most on this board would be like lets get 'er done!

Got it wrong....Restructuring means he converts that years salary to a

bonus which means he collects that money the next day.......He actually gets

money upfront to help the team....not earn the money......
