Ghost of BiB Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 I was always partial to the white streak of the phosperous rounds myself. 613574 Multi-tools is what's "in" though, no one with any true fashion sense lugs entrenching tools any more.
Crap Throwing Monkey Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 Like you ever even seen a smoke grenade let alone pulled the pin on one. You probably think concussion grenades are shaped like pinecones, don't you? Friggen loser. 613565 Did you even have concussion grenades in the shire?
VABills Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 Multi-tools is what's "in" though, no one with any true fashion sense lugs entrenching tools any more. 613576 I wear jeans most of the time. Fashion is lost on me. I prefer functionality over looks.
Crap Throwing Monkey Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 ...no one with any true fashion sense lugs entrenching tools any more. 613576 Well...you know. Marines.
Ghost of BiB Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 Well...you know. Marines. 613581 Have you ever seen an entrenching tool? Much less open one? Friggen loser.
Crap Throwing Monkey Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 Have you ever seen an entrenching tool? Much less open one? Friggen loser. 613583 Don't real people just call them "shovels"?
VABills Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 Don't real people just call them "shovels"? 613586 No. They have other uses. The head can be locked down at angles. Friggen loser.
Ghost of BiB Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 Don't real people just call them "shovels"? 613586 Yeah, but they fold up and store in a little pouch.
KRC Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 Yeah, but they fold up and store in a little pouch. 613591 So, it is a travel-sized shovel.
VABills Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 So, it is a travel-sized shovel. 613596 No.
Crap Throwing Monkey Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 No. 613597 Anyone else have this image of VABills in Home Depot, looking at the shovels, shouting "They're still entrenching tools to me, dammit!"
KRC Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 Anyone else have this image of VABills in Home Depot, looking at the shovels, shouting "They're still entrenching tools to me, dammit!" 613599
Ghost of BiB Posted February 28, 2006 Posted February 28, 2006 No. 613597 Yes. The "old" style e-tools were both a shovel and a pick, and could be used as a weapon. The new ones are little spade looking things that weigh about a pound and fold out to about a 1 foot handle. Good for digging cat holes to poop in, but not much else.

It's purpose is simple, to allow the Marine to 'dig in', to either fortify his/her position with earth or trenches, or dig a hole (commonly known as a 'foxhole') to hide and protect him/herself, without carrying a bulky shovel. This tool attaches easily to the side of a Marines Pack, and is carried by all riflemen, and some officers. As a Secondary, and more deadly option, the entrenching tool it designed to be used as an impromptu battle axe (notice the serrated edges on the right side of the head, designed for this purpose).

So, it is a non-bulky shovel, shovel.
