"A Spin of the Wheel" (i don't remember the author) I wish I had bought the 30 odd copies at a clearence store ($1 a piece) so many years ago. Every copy I had - was loaned - and gone Great story of the birth of the Sabres and the timeline involved

bbb Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 That was a great article, and you were right - it was really well written. Good stuff - I didn't know much of that..........I was 7 at the time, but do remember how good that last Bisons team was - I see on that site that Guy Trottier had 55 goals - that is unreal - how was he not playing with the Rangers that year!! I remember Villemure getting called up a lot and then for a few years he shared the Rangers goalie duties with Giacomin.
Spun Posted February 27, 2006 Posted February 27, 2006 That was a very interesting article. The first Sabres player, Joe Daley (as mentioned but also misspelled in the article) was also one of the last goalies to play without a mask. I remember them raising the Aud roof to get more seats in there. They got more seats alright but isn't that also how they got bats? Five dollars for a standing room ticket. Certain players did cast some long shadows. The first Sabres Assistant GM, Fred Hunt was my uncle.
