Ghost of BiB
I just tossed that out there for perspective. Hutchinson was in the running for this Dubai deal too.
RkFast
China controlling the Panama Canal? Thanks, Jimmy. 610570 China.......Has one of the worst records on human rights across the board. They are building up their military so fast it would make Joseph Stalin blush and they are threatening to invade Taiwan. Their business/trade practices are totally underhanded and unfair and their worker's rights are for the birds. Their energy policy is 1950s vintage. But......USA BAD!!!!! GEORGE BUSH BAD!!!!!!! So they are getting away with it.
BB27
I would say that if there is going to be a World War 3, it will involve China. And lets just say I doubt we would be their ally.

Newly declassified documents from the Clinton administration reveal that a civil airline modernization program for China was actually a program to train and equip the People's Liberation Army Air Force (PLAAF). The new documents, forced from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) by the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), are official USAF, Commerce and FAA reports on Chinese military contacts. If Bush does have a China policy it seems to be one of purposeful neglect on the issues you mentioned, or at least tacit acceptance.
Mickey
Actually, "Jimmy Carter gave away the Panama Canal" has been a sure-fire saliva trigger for the far right since it happened. In fact, decades later it still pops up now and then as a guaranteed applause line. The only problem with it as a partisan reference here is that republicans are just as mad about the UAE/Port thing as the democrats.
Ghost of BiB
My appologies. I've been stunned to watch the agreement and consensus from both sides of our aisle the last few days, and did not intend for this to go into a Clinton bash. cromagnum
How about we let Mexico guard the Southwest borders 610854 Everytime the president talks about the issue of illegals coming into this country, he mentions that americans do not want to pick fruit or moe lawns, and that the illegals do. He never mentions the illegals setting steel, framing houses, painting, electrical, plumbing, quess americans do not want to do that either.
Bob Lamb
Everytime the president talks about the issue of illegals coming into this country, he mentions that americans do not want to pick fruit or moe lawns, and that the illegals do. He never mentions the illegals setting steel, framing houses, painting, electrical, plumbing, quess americans do not want to do that either. 610906 Here's the problem with that statement - It is NOT the fact the Americans won't do that work - they won't do the work for the labor rate that the immigrants will do it for - thereby undercutting the local labor market. If you can find work at $5 a day in some unamed foreign land south of Texas - you are considered well off - but there are too many workers and a corrupt, incompetent government, south of Arizona that doesn't give two goat turds about its' populace that doesn't have enough money to bribe them. So, to keep the natives moving - show them the promised land and give them a road map there - oh - and by the way - send some Yankee $$ back to an unamed land south of New Mexico. Billions ($$$$) flow back from immigrant workers who undercut the local labor market to an unamed land south of California and that is enough to keep the corrupt politicians afloat. So - the REAL culprit is a American policy that 1. Doesn't know how to build a fence 2. Doesn't prosecute American employers who hire (and exploit) illegal workers 3. Kisses ass of corrupt amigos from an unamed land that doesn't border Iowa If you follow the local drift - public indignation is starting to rise - but it's too late. This is a case of "Bush Bad" but add Clinton, Bush Sr., Carter, Reagan and any assorted politico for the last 50 years It must be a problem now - because Diane Feinstein (CA) just introduced a bill to make it illegal to tunnel into the United States. YellowLinesandArmadillos
I think they tried under Clinton and were rejected by congress as being too close to military installations. Apparentely, then later on they did gain access under this President. Obviously, both sides are complicit in this. And both love to demagogue the issue and wrap themselves in the flag when it is politically expedient.
