bud8andbills Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 Getting Ngata is a must, retainig Sam Adams to mold him is as well. 3-4 yes. Our DEs are 3/4 the way there. We have 3 awesome linebackers, as well as great corners, and great safties. I think our major concern next is o-line. We need guys with heart who care about winning and not mega-millions, that is for the lottery players. Marv will bring heart and character back. Remember when Phil (Hansen) retired why he retired. "These young kids have no work ethic". Marv will re-instill that. Go Marv and Dick.

From what I understand, the coaching staff's experience is in the 4-3 defense.

We have been running it for years. edit: Am I the only one thinking this?

You have to know that one of those teams will take Ngata they all need D-lineman. Even the Jets might fool everybody and take Ngata so that is four teams in front of us with a need for Ngata. So try to start think of another player for us to draft.

(I'm assuming because Posey has shown he can do well in a 3-4).

Oakland will take whichever is left between Mario and Hawk. San Fran could grab him, but San Fran could grab anyone. And as long as he isn't going to be in the war room, I don't see why bud8andbills needs to have a backup plan for the draft.

He's already made it clear that we're going to be a Tampa-2 defense. It takes more than a few tweaks to move to a 34 defense, and the Bills want to win now. Jeez. And this is the EASY stuff.
Blue Chipper Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 Nodnarb your avatar brings back memories of my days riding on the bus to school. Love that game.

Can you play a cover-2, that is a modified version, with a 3-4?

DonInBuffalo Posted February 24, 2006 Posted February 24, 2006 IMO switching to a 3-4 would require too much revamping of the personnel, in particular the DL. In a 3-4, your DE's have to relatively big by DE standards, and very good run-stuffers. Schobel, Kelsay, and Denney certainly don't fit that general description. Of course, there are "different flavors" of the 3-4. The Bills current personnel is particularly misfit for the style of defense the Bills ran with Phillips/Cottrell, where all of the DL generally had two-gap responsiblity on almost every down. I believe the schemes that the Steelers run are quite a bit different, and the Bills personnel might be a little better suited to that sort of style of 3-4.

Hmm one is coming back from a nasty injury, another getting long in tooth and Posey is someone many are ready to escort out of town.
