Poeticlaw Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 2006 Player Pos. Releasing all these players this year save $13,845,431 to bring in QUALITY FA's and afford us another $10,852,499 next year. Thus we could improve quite rapidly by doing this this year no matter how much we like Moulds its about the overall team Not one player. And just to make a point....The NE Patriots who have won 3 superbowls in the last 5 years have done it with out a marquee reciever. David patten, Troy brown, David Givens no other team in the leaugue would make these players 1 or 2 on the depth chart most likely 3 or 4th. They have one because of the over all depth of the rosters with quaility free agents. I think its time for the overall team to improve not only for this year but for the foreseeble future and we cant do that paying out that much money to these players.

They may not have a #1, but four certifiable #2s, including some possession receivers who can catch, is almost as good.
drnykterstein Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 noo.... lets cut these guys. Daimon Shelton, $1,131,160 hit, $768,840 savings ($6,160 dead cap) Coy Wire - $706,160 hit, $600,000 savings ($56,160 dead) Ryan Neufeld, $672,826 hit, $510,000 savings ($90,000 dead) Joe Burns, $566,160, $538,840 savings ($6,160 dead) (If I'm understanding these numbers correctly) Extra cap room = $3,076,306 Total Savings = $2,417,680 Dead = $158,480 And we lose a bunch of crappy players that were not doing anything anyways. Mike Williams does need to be cut, but cutting Moulds is among the dumbest things this team could do. A pox upon you for wanting to cut him. We've been through the logic 1000 times. After cutting Moulds you have $4 Mil to replace Moulds and still benefit. Which then raises the question, can you find talent equal to Moulds for $4 mil. The answer is, of course, no. This does not even factor his team leadership, history with the Bills, and fan love for him.

You don't think we can do that? Hello! Leadership? Well, this leader of men whined SO much (and was insubordinate) that it resulted in a suspension. You DO remember this, right? It is clearly time to lop off the cancer and start anew. Moulds has little left and even less to offer the Buffalo Bills in terms of future contribution.
drnykterstein Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 You see 10.1 ypc, I see 80 catches and two bad QB's. Guess we are seeing different things.
Bill from NYC Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 You see 10.1 ypc, I see 80 catches and two bad QB's. Guess we are seeing different things. 607936 Perhaps, but we will both be seeing the same 2 bad qbs next year. Thanks for bringing that up, because it helps me illustrate my point. By the time our OL and QB situation is straightened out, Moulds is likely to be in his sixties. Seriously, if Moulds was the missing piece to push us over the top, I would be all for keeping him. Given the shape we are in, I would rather use the money saved to pursue other, more important areas of need. Jmo.
Rico Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 Adams may be washed up, but I wouldn't cut him until after a viable replacement has been acquired AND the other DT spot has been fortified. Agree 100% on the 3 others.

Hello! 607934 I agree with you about the sentiments...some guys have to go...but you keep referring to this 10.1 YPC as if it was ALL Moulds's doing and that is the only stat worth referecing to justify whether to keep Moulds or not...did we watch the same anemic OL and playcalling last year? Holcumb's lack of a strong arm had to attribute to that low number...now granted I do agree in part that 10.1 is somewhat alarming...but I would be willing to bet that number can get much closer to his career YPC of 13.5. If Moulds can get to 13.5 YPC to compliment the big play ability of Evans, Bills will be just fine.

We have money to buy things as we are now. Also I still don't think Evans can fully function alone with double coverage. I just don't see him pulling it off. I have my opinions and you have yours. Oh and agree with clements22, I think Moulds is great at upfield blocking. Which has no stat.

Holcomb is Holcomb, and there is nthing to assure us that JP will improve (as much as we need this). In fact, he could even get worse. Moulds is old and he has lost a step. He threw a hissy fit when JP got the ball to Evans for 3 TDs. Imo, both he and the Bills would be better off if he plays with another team.
John from Riverside Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 if we would bring in a anchor DT you would see Sam Adam at the Pro Bowl again..... Lets face it...he is a freelancer who gets into the backfield.....get a stay at home guy and our interior defensive problems would be solved....

I'd only cut him if he absolutely refused to do any kind of reconstruction of his contract. Who knows, Reed could sign quickly with another team. Then what would you have, an unproven Aikens, and an undersized Parrish.

colin Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 i'd rather keep moulds at this point, but if ditching him got us bently, i'd do it.
MadBuffaloDisease Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 No, HERE is who needs to be released, assuming he doesn't take a massive paycut (cap savings per Clump): Williams-$4,907,098 Moulds-$4,522,334 Milloy-$2,500,000 Villarrial-$1,781,250 Posey-$1,750,000 Campbell-$1,000,000 B. Anderson-$893,840 Shelton-$768,840 Neufeld-$672,826 Wire-$600,000 Burns-$538,840 That's a cap savings of $19,935,028! Add that to the $6,474,477M Clumpy says the Bills will be under (based on a cap of $93,500,000), and it's $26,409,505 (give or take a dollar) they could be under the cap! But wait, there are guys like Fletcher ($4,900,000 cap hit), Schobel ($4,566,666) Adams ($3,875,000), Evans ($2,280,065), and Gandy ($1,955,000) who they can and SHOULD restructure, to free-up another $3M or so. Think almost $30M would be enough money to get new FA's?
drnykterstein Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 This team needs a clean sweep. 607998 New coaching all around, new management, I'm sure a new o-line and d-line. How much more can you replace? Should we become an expansion frachise or something? You keep what works (Moulds) and get rid of what doesn't.

I thought he might pan out as a WR...but, no longer. He's strictly a ST player as far as I'm concerned.
drnykterstein Posted February 21, 2006 Posted February 21, 2006 Think almost $30M would be enough money to get new FA's? 608021 Lol, you'd need too. With all of those cuts there is nobody left on the team. >Milloy-$2,500,000 don't do it.. he's not a bad SS and finding a replacement is not easy. We've got too many other worries to have to develop a guy here, when we have one that isn't that bad. >Villarrial-$1,781,250 Maybe, depend on if Mac thinks he can start or not >Posey-$1,750,000 for the money it costs to cut him I'd rather just keep him on as a backup. Injury happens and he's a serviceable replacement Campbell-$1,000,000 >maybe, dunno if its worth the cap hit, he's not a bad TE >B. Anderson-$893,840 yeah. a descent sized cap hit, but the guys does suck

Milloy I could see keeping, but not the rest, especially not Posey to be a backup.
