kgun Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 Vikings | Cottrell to retire Tue, 14 Feb 2006 05:52:07 -0800 Don Seeholzer, of the Pioneer Press, reports former Minnesota Vikings defensive coordinator Ted Cottrell revealed Monday, Feb. 13, that he has filed retirement papers with the NFL. "I don't want to retire," Cottrell, 58, said. "I'm being forced into retirement." Cottrell has been unable to land a job with an NFL team, despite 10 head coaching changes. "It's been a bizarre year," Cottrell said. "All these openings but no jobs. I've called some people and it's the same old story. 'We'll let you know if anything opens up.'"

Beerball Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 this is stunning. 602724 Meanwhile Tice landed on his feet. A few steps lower on the ladder, but on his feet none the less.
Bill from NYC Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 Meanwhile Tice landed on his feet. A few steps lower on the ladder, but on his feet none the less. 602726 Do the Bills have a LB Coach yet? The thing is, I am not sure if TC would take the job, whereas it might pay little more than his pension. Too bad.....TC is a class act.
scribo Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 I'd like to know if he was offered any position coaching jobs. Is he quitting because no one wants him as their head coach? Because no one wants him as their defensive coordinator? Is he only willing to work for coordiator money?
ACor58 Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 That is too bad, I always liked him as a coach. The problem is that his defenses were never as good in NY or Minnesota as they were in Buffalo. It could be an issue with race, with age, or with both. Either way, I find it hard to believe that he wasn't able to find a job. Probably a case of him not finding another DC or am HC job.

To go from a DC the past 8 years to nothing is strange.
eball Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 Ted's a good man and a decent football coach; it's always sad to read a story like that.
IDBillzFan Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 "All these openings but no jobs. I've called some people and it's the same old story. 'We'll let you know if anything opens up.'" It's because he's a Chocolate American. Actually, I'm surprised he's not getting a job with New Orleans since the mayor there is so gung-ho on making that city "chocolate" again. If he were a White Chocolate American, he'd have a job right now.
IDBillzFan Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 It's because he's a Chocolate American. I'm tellin' ya.
tennesseeboy Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 Yeah...jauron and Tice Vanilla seems to be in this year. Hell...it seems to be in every year!
stuckincincy Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 It's because he's a Chocolate American. I'm tellin' ya. 602819 Is that anything like a Dutch Chocolate?
KD in CA Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 Yeah...jauron and Tice Vanilla seems to be in this year. Hell...it seems to be in every year! 602822 That's cause they're White Thunder.
34-78-83 Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 Teams are looking for "high Motor" coaches, and Cotrell didn't fit that bill.
Chilly Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 Teams are looking for "high Motor" coaches, and Cotrell didn't fit that bill. 602887 Carl Mauck does though.
34-78-83 Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 Carl Mauck does though. 602893 Mauck AKA Chris Farley
Kelly the Dog Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 Cotrell should forget about retiring and come back to coach the Bills linebackers. That's something he is pretty decent at. I just don't think he is a great coordinator and surely not head coach material. Regardless of the fact that, accoriding to my sources, he is rumored to be a Chocolate American.
The Dean Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 It's because he's a Chocolate American. I'm tellin' ya. 602819 Ah...a little Quirky Alone Day humor, I see. http://quirkyalone.net/qa/
BEAST MODE BABY! Posted February 14, 2006 Posted February 14, 2006 Yeah...jauron and Tice Vanilla seems to be in this year. Hell...it seems to be in every year! 602822 Shouldn't it be Vanilla Tice? Tice, Tice, baby. BTW, I heard that since Mauck got fired he now lives in a van down by the river.
