Oh I was there one other time for a reception but I didn't walk through the galleries. How long it takes you will be a function of how into art you are. I tend to get lost looking at everything, but my family usually does not have the patience that I do. You can spend an hour playing in the gift shop if I remember correctly. Definitely worth a visit every few years. I feel the same way about the RMSC, Eastman House, and Planetarium. Last time I was there the exhibit was Ansel Adams. I would like to go there for a classic movie. Especially when they bring in an actor or a producer. Seems like they have an excellent collection. I sheepishly admit that when I lived in Bflo, my only visits to Rocherster were because of Genesee Beer's excellent bowling tournaments.
