eball Posted January 24, 2006 Posted January 24, 2006 "There's a lot of players in this league who want to play for Dick Jauron." Let's hope they're the good ones. But seriously, how much stock should one put in comments like this from a player who formerly played for Jauron? Shane Matthews -- who will probably retire -- also made glowing remarks. Are Villarrial's comments to be shrugged off as words from someone trying to butter up the new guy and squeeze another year (and paycheck) out of his career? What would be Matthews' motivation? I'm still decidedly on the fence concerning this hire, and I keep saying it over and over again -- what Jauron does to assemble his coaching staff will be as much a determining factor as anything from this point forward. I am, however, somewhat reassured to hear that Jauron seems to be so well respected among players and coaches in the league. It looks like he made some bad hiring decisions with his staff in Chicago, and hopefully he learned from that. The next week or so should be interesting, as I would expect the coaching staff to be finalized during that time.
