SuperBills12 Posted August 21, 2004 Posted August 21, 2004 This matter regarding Willis, and Travis is nothing like the QB controversy we had with Flutie and RJ......Only could play and lead the offense in that situation, but in this instance, both these guys will be in the same backfield, the ball could go to either one....what this matter is really about is ego, and pride....Both these young men want to be the starter for their team, but can't see themselves as a back up to one another it seems.....I wish Thurman and Kenny Davis would be brought in as "special consultants" to straighten TH and MW out
RuntheDamnBall Posted August 21, 2004 Posted August 21, 2004 If it's about ego, and these guys wanting to show each other up, I'm all for it. We should have plenty of 20 yard rushing gains if that's the case. Go Bills. I'm hoping for a Madden-esque 250 yards from Henry and 125 rushing, 125 receiving from McGahee, per game. 4 TDs apiece per game. Then we can sign them to 12 million dollar a year contracts and no one will stop us for the next 6 years.
Nanker Posted August 21, 2004 Posted August 21, 2004 I think it's about more than ego. It's about money. Travis is a bargain. Willis is too - if he doesn't play enough to reach his incentive bonuses. Not a great situation for either of the players. They both want the run the ball. That's what they do. That's what they're built to do. That's how they'll make the big payday. I wonder what the Cardinals or Minnesota would give for one of 'em. Even with all the grumbling, I don't think either one of them is going to lay down and not try to produce. But it certainly does make for an interesting dynamic on the bench and in the locker room. The best thing about this 'controversy' though is it gives the sports beat writers and the geniuses at ESPN, etc. from trying to find clever new ways to reference the new Head Coach's name.

In a sense, even if it's money that's driving his competitive urge, I'm for it. And Travis has played hard under all his 'inadequate' contracts. I don't get the impression that it's about the money for Travis. If it is, he deserves it.
