Chalkie Gerzowski Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 that was followed up with a 4-12 season. What were the reasons behind a 9 win drop off? What were the amount of injuries?
Bill Swerski Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 that was followed up with a 4-12 season. What were the reasons behind a 9 win drop off? What were the amount of injuries? 580054 - Horrible offensive playcalling (John Shoop) - Deer in the headlights HC (Dick Jauron) - Poor training camp (light contact, meeting heavy) - Inadequate QB play - Injuries to Ted Washington and Warrick Holdman The talent level between the 2001 and 2002 teams was not discernibly different, the Bears just played a first place schedule and were outplayed and outcoached in every game. They lost a lot of players during the season but the team was already in the crapper before the injuries took their toll. Hell, they were even outcoached by Gregg Williams! Two of their four victories were due to Marty Mornhingweg inexpicably giving the Bears the ball first in OT and a Wayne Chrebet OT fumble at the 5 yard line which gave the Bears a win. They really should have finished 2-14. Jauron was resolute in standing by John Shoop and he was at war with the GM. Not good times...
Buffalo Baumer Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 It's called they had 6 lucky A$$ plays in 6 games to win in miraculous fashion!! I lived there during the Jauron years and it was horrible. I have already had over 10 friends in Chicago call me today asking what the #### we were thinking with the hire
Chalkie Gerzowski Posted January 23, 2006 Author Posted January 23, 2006 That's the 2nd time I have read "deer in the headlights" from a Bears fan today.
MadBuffaloDisease Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 Actually looking at the Bears' roster in 2001-2002, they were really a 4-12 talent team that somehow managed to win 13 games in 2001.
HopsGuy Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 I asked a Bears fan I work with about Jauron. He said, "Hold on. Let me see if I can find that speech from a few years ago that I gave to Dolphin fans about Wannstedt."
BuckeyeBill Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 "Hold on. Let me see if I can find that speech from a few years ago that I gave to Dolphin fans about Wannstedt." 580222 Ouch
Kultarr Posted January 23, 2006 Posted January 23, 2006 It's largely irrelevant, I suppose; but, ex-Bears head coaches have not exactly been stellar in their new appointments. - Ditka tanked in New Orleans. - Wannstedt bombed in Miami. - Jauron ???? in Buffalo. It does appear that the Lions at least gave Jauron an interview. Interestingly, some of the players on the Lions implied that Jauron and Mooch were just not right for a young football team that didn't need a coddling approach but to be forced to do their jobs the right way.
