Ron Jessie, a former Los Angeles Rams wide receiver, died Friday of a heart attack, his son, Ron, said Sunday.

Jessie, 57, played in the NFL for 11 seasons. He was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the eighth round in 1971 but was traded to the Detroit Lions before the start of the season.

Jessie also was the NCAA indoor long jump champion in 1969 while attending the University of Kansas.

Jessie is survived by his wife, Sharon; and two sons, Ron, 33, and Brandon, 31.

Services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Harbor Lawn-Mount Olive Memorial Park in Costa Mesa.
