Bela Fleck at the Palace Oct. 9th ...

Tickets go on sale tomorrow at ten. I'm getting mine at 10:05 (my office is a block from the Palace) ... If you ever do one of Bela's shows, you want LEFT side (stage-right) and in the first ten rows. His stool is always stage-right. Watching this guy play live & up close is a musical/religious experience. I HIGHLY recommend it. I had noticed on his web site a few months back that he had a three-week gap in his tour (as scheduled at the time) the last 3 weeks of October... Since the last scheduled show was in Mass., I kind of saw this coming. But much like the kid who knows he's getting the bike on Christmas morning, I am still psyched! very psyched. So forgive the rant ...

Good stuff. I have seen him a few times with his band and also at festivals where he played and then sat in with Grisman and the Yonder Mountain String Band.

He also sat in on a couple of songs on the Jorma Kaukonen CD "Blue Country Heart" which I happen to enjoy.

He'll be on the line at 8. "John's away from his desk, I don't know where he is, maybe he went to the field" Peluso 8/20/04 8:45 AM

Hey, man... You grew up in Batavia? My best friend grew up there, (Zielinski's his name) and my first State office was out there from '87-'91. Nice to meet you.

By the way, ask me what the best part of the October 9th daye in Albany is... The Bills are on the ROAD the next day! I'm telling you, man ... early Christmas. I'll see my musical hero, wake up next to the redhead the next morning, and have hours to "kill" before getting out of bed just in time for Bills-Jets at 4PM ... God likes me. He really, really likes me ...

Hmmm, the only Zielinski I knew was a kid (way back when) named Bob. Is that the one? But, it's entirely possible there could have been more than one Bob Zielinski in Batavia.

It's funny to me that Jorma took a little heat from "fans" & critics at first for "Blue Country Heart" ... A huge fan of his working with me loaned it to me to check out, and I think it was some of the best music recorded in recent years. He's earned the right to play whatever he damn chooses.

Saw Bela Fleck and the Flecktones a few years back, opening for the Dave Matthews Band at the Finger Lakes. What a great show!

For the final encore, both bands took the stage and Fleck played vs DMBs fiddle player on Ants Marching.

I was in concert heaven.

Howzabout an Ode to Bela Fleck, Petrino?

Nice to see Bela getting a little attention here on the board. He is one of the most unique musicians out there and tremendously respected in the music worl as eveidenced by his many guest appearances on other's albums. Bela is also going to be here in Buffalo and I will be there.

Going to see Bela in Portsmouth on Aug 31. Their playing with Yonder MT. and Keller Williams. Should be a good show

Who's Beta Fleck?

Bela Fleck is a Jazz Banjo player for lack of a better description. He tours with a three piece band called the Flectones. His Bass player, Victor Wooten is widely recognized as on of the best jazz bassists in the world as well. He has appeared as a guest musician on CDs by Neil Young, Phish and a few others that are slipping my early morning brain.
