Okay went back and looked at the stick (love HDTV).

It says:

23 Psalm

Revelations : 3

(something illegible) 144

"Hateth" (in quotes)

Col*slans

T: 4 (the * was an illegible mark)

Titus:3

There was more at the top of the stick and something he was carving, but you can't make it out.

Also, with Revelations and Titus, the numbers that follow are right before the stick is wrapped with twine, so there could be more numbers after (since I assume they are chapter/paragraph marks).

Eko's brother not only died trying to save Eko, he DID save Eko by allowing him to take his place as a priest (in a round about way) and find redemption. Interesting comparison with Liam...that had slipped my mind.

BTW, the man who Eko told Charlie that saved his life was not his brother. Eko was refering to the gold toothed man - the one who kicked him off the plane.

Totally.

What I meant was that by his brother signing those papers and making him a "priest" and then coming to the airport with the military (which caused the events to occur which prevented Eko from getting on the plane), his brother saved his life. The Military assumed he was a priest, not a drug runner (which I found odd)...and he had the papers to prove it because of his brother.

So Eko saved his brother from sin in the beginning, and then his brother saved him by the end and gave him a chance for redemption.

I'll have to go back and look at the stick, but they were scripture verses. Psalm 23 was on there as well as "repent" and I think "redemption" but I could be confusing those two.

I thought the same thing with Michael. However, with the film telling them not to use the computer, I feel like someone really is talking to him. But honestly, it could very easily go either way right now.

Yes, the writers did have Charlie say 'What're you a priest?' multiple times. (Granted, tho, Charlie's observation about there being blood on the stick with scripture on it is a little weird to reconcile). There's more and better parallels in their two backstories, but I've spent the last three days taking care of my 5-y.o. to-be-step-nephew while my brother&fiance recovered from drill weekend. Fun is. I'd encourage myself and others to expound on this as we think it over, b/c the writers put these two characters together for a reason.

The language on the computer seems too generic to be real. There wasn't anything on Michael's screen when he was typing all of the words in, was there? Why does it only show up when someone else initiates contact? Anyway, Michael went pretty loco in the preview for next week, even after he agreed w/ Locke that the 'Have Gun, Will Travel' thing was a stupid idea. Perhaps Locke was planting this idea in Michael's head, tho?

I don't follow the other Lost boards (only this one)...but my friend told me that there was discussion about seeing faces in the smoke when Locke was pulled into the hole last season...

I don't know about that cause I didn't see it...but there are def faces there this time.

Did you think the second face (the one on the left) was Eko's brother or another person? I couldn't tell, but whoever it was looked dead.

I thought I say an image of one of the Virgin Mary statues in the smoke as well.

That could be. I didn't see it, but doesn't mean it's not there. I focused on the two faces...

I think Sloth hit it on the head why Charlie and Eko fit...it's all about forgiveness and in turn redemption. Charlie still has not forgiven his brother for introducing him to heroin, nor has he taken the responsibility that he did the drugs (and his brother didn't force him to do anything).

Eko on the other hand sacrificed his soul (they even say it in the episode) to save his brother's life. But his brother never truly appreciated it until the end (and then in turn gave his life to spare Eko's soul). But Eko needed to find his brother's body and beg for forgiveness (which is what he was saying I think as he cradled the body) in order to fully be "saved". Which is something that Charlie has not been able to do.

That was driven home by Eko doning his cross (salvation) while Charlie squirelled away more heroin (sin).

Another note is about Claire and the baby. The psychic said the baby can't be raised by anyone else. And over the past couple episodes, everyone had been raising the baby (Locke, Charlie etc) but Claire. Now with Charlie gone, she has to do it herself...could be a good thing. Just something that popped into my head.

Actually the man who kicked him off the plane (the one with the gold tooth) did save Eko's life in that he and Eko's brother appeared to have died in the plane crash. That's to say by not being on that plane Eko was allowed to live.

I'm really starting to think the island is a place where people can deal with the demons (deaths) in their lives. I made mention of this theory/similar idea in in one of the older threads, I think after the episode that showed Ana Lucia's backstory. As it seems the connection to all those on the island deal with deaths that they have caused in one way or another. See Eko (brother), Kate (man she loved) Sawyer (the man he shot), Jack (Shannon's dad), Ana Lucia (the man she shot) Hurley (his father died after he won the lottery with the numbers), Jin (don't have a specific but possibly someone for his father in law) and Sayid (again no one specific but one would think with his soldier background there has to be someone).

I don't mean to sound like a-- here, but guilt is a theme in like, every episode.

And the list of people who killed before coming to the island keeps growing....

Notice that it was the 23rd Psalm, which is the Shepard's prayer, yeah.... BTW -- that was a great scene with the voiceover of it.

I might be stating the obvious, but I seem to recall Jack's last name being Shepard. Also, wasn't Jack seated in row 23 on the plane?

Too many coincidences...I can't wait to see how this all gets wrapped up.

My buddy just sent me this after looking at his Tivo version. About the smoke.

--------------------------------

In the order they appear:

a church

a small nigerian boy

nigerian lady that sold the statues

the old man he shot at the begining

echo coming out of water in the plane crash

one of the nigerian drug runners before he got on the plane

a nigerian lady

echo holding his brother wen he was shot

and jesus on the cross

------------------------------

Now, I only got two faces when I saw it....but who knows. This was just something he sent me figured I would send it along....

Obvious, true, but still a good call.

How about the Biblical references in the pre-show, too:

Ana says to Eko: It took you 40 days to speak? (Noah's ark....it rained 40 days and 40 nights) and....

Eko says to Ana: It took you 40 years to cry. (children of Israel wandered 40 years before they were allowed to enter the Promised Land).

A bit thought on this point. Does this correlation reinforce the idea that Jack is the ultimately focal point of everything?

As Charlie and Eko said last night "The Lord is my Shepherd..."(which of course is Psalm 23)" and many people feel that surgeons/medical providers are often playing God and/or have God like complexes.

I am stating the obvious...but "23" is also one of the numbers...

Now I have to check the psalms corresponding to the other five numbers...
