nobody Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 You're not going to see Coordinators on the Bills that get paid more then the HC. That only leaves the "up and comers" as options.
2003Contenders Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 It doesn't seem coincidental that this story came out around the same time that the Jim Mora, JR quote about MM's son was reported. That may explain the Atlanta connection, as Mora probably put in a good word for his boy.
Bflojohn Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 Maybe Brett Maxie is the only one who returned Mike Mularkeys' telephone call...

Guffalo Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 Maybe Brett Maxie is the only one who returned Mike Mularkeys' telephone call... 560973 Actually a good point, we may have difficulties getting quality assistants here now that everyone knows MM is on a one year tryout. If the bills have the same depressing season again, those assistants will be cleared out with MM. If I am an assistant and I know a coordinator or HC who has just signed on somewhere, why would I sign with Buffalo, knowing that I may only have a year before the staff gets broken up? Just a thought
Buffalo_Stampede Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 How does Mularkey even know who Brett Maxie is? I think what he is doing is starting with every team, in alphabetical order and contacting every defensive coach that will talk to him. I guess no one in Arizona would talk to him.

jester43 Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 my two thoughts while perusing this tread: 1 why the EFF do we always have to be the team that provides on-the-job training for the inexperienced? what about capers or cottrell or SOMEONE that has actually performed the duties of this position before? 2. by all means, let's keep the menstruation jokes, uh (ahem), flowing.
Guffalo Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 Or on the flip side, a coordinator might have an inside shot at getting the HC position after a year of showing his stuff with the Bills.... 560983 For a Jim Haslett or Jim Fassel, yes, I agree, but not any of the fodder that has been discussed so far.
Albany,n.y. Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 If the Bills do not fire Gray, but let him accept an offer from another team (here in Austin, they are saying he is likely to be the DC and assistant HC to Gart Kubiak, in Houston), the Bills might be able to get a draft pick as compensation...just a thought? Not sure if it works the same for coordinators as it does HC's... 560908 I hear we've offered a 4th to Houston if they name Gray DB coach, a 3rd if they name him D coordinator, and a 2nd if they name him head coach-we have the same offer on the table to the Jets, & since we play them twice a year, Marv is hoping the Jets grab that extra #2.
crazyDingo Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 Ya know what we should do? Give someone with no experience at that level a chance! We've never really tried on-the-job-training in Buffalo. It might be fun AND rewarding.
JoeF Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 Rooney Rule was from a study that recommended it apply to assistant coach and coordinator positions as well.. although this wasn't adopted (The assistant and coordinator penalty) most teams try to live by the spirit of the rule. Good Rooney Rule Whitepaper
The Dean Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 It's just an INTERVIEW. It ain't like they hired the bum (...well...yet. shudder) Keep up with the Maxie Pad jokes, though. Those are good.
Kelly the Dog Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 I bet Brett Maxie is reading this board and laughing his ass off at all the Maxie pad jokes. I bet he's never heard one of those before in his life. -signed, Mr. Smoketoomuch.
ricojes Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 The TBD'ers need Maxie, we keep losing personnel in which we can make fun of their names.... Bledsloe Donablow Who's next....TBD'ers would have to grow up without Maxie.
eball Posted January 10, 2006 Posted January 10, 2006 I don't get it. There's nothing funny about the name Brett Maxie. Period.

Orton's Arm Posted January 11, 2006 Posted January 11, 2006 To reduce the chance of injuries, Maxie could redesign the team's pads. The new and improved Maxie pads would allow a greater degree of comfort, while reducing bleeding and improving performance.
